Wow is all I can say right now. I am a 1911 platform fan and have owned and competed with quite a few. I ordered this Dan Wesson PM-9 with the intention of competing in IPSC Classic division and I don't think I will be disappointed. It is by far the nicest factory 1911 out of the box I have had the pleasure to try. Fit and finish would rival many custom guns and certainly surpass factory STI guns. The PM-9 comes with all the nice things already done, from the bevelled magwell to reverse crown on the barrel. It is TIGHT and so smooth. No polishing required with the slide frame fit. Bomar style adjustable rear sight and front F.O. A Clark style top rib to reduce glare.

The beavertail to frame fit is beautifuly blended and polished. One of my must have features was the undercut trigger guard and very grippy checkering. I'm probably missing a few things but you get the idea. It has almost everything. The factory trigger pull was 4.5 lbs with some creep. Once I striped, cleaned, and lubed everything, I tweeked and polished the trigger spring a little and adjusted the pre travel tabs on the trigger bow which resulted in a 3 .20 lb trigger with only a hint of creep and no overtravel. It is now better than custom in my opinion.

Here are a few of my wants which are on order. An extended Magwell and an ambi safety. I have ordered these items to complete a full Classic IPSC package. How is accuracy you ask ? I will have to get back to you on that. I only fired 70 or so rounds to function test all my mags and sight it in. However, all the rounds landed in a 2 inch circle at 20 yds off the bench once sighted in. I only had mostly one type of ammo which was 124 gr. with a handful of factory 147gr HP's thrown in. Reliability was 100 % in my small test. If you are looking for a top shelf 1911 in 9mm, or even 45, you absolutely cannot go wrong with the PM-9.

I need to thank Siwash Sports in Chilliwack B.C. for getting this pistol for me. They were awesome to deal with. They are not a sponsor here, but they carry every new cool rifle or shotgun and most new and surplus pistols on the market. My favourite little store. Here is the eye wash as Ron Power( custom guns ) used to say.

Very nice. I've become a big Dan Wesson fan. If I find a PM in 38 super I'll jump on it.

That's the one. The 9 is way more practical but I have a thing for 38 super.

I bought a PM9 in May to use for IPSC Classic division. I have just a shade under 10,000 rounds through it so far and it has been awesome. I added a few things out of the box like you mentioned, magwell, ambi safeties etc but its a great platform for a classic division gun. Zero issues with it so far.

Can I ask what load you are using. I am not having too much luck today so far with 147gr bullets. At 900 fps they are all over at 20 yds. Ha, I ordered the same Magwell.

Is it really a 1911 if it isn't .45 acp? Congrats on your Dan Wesson. Some of the nicest guns out there.

Yes.

I'd say what defines a St. John Moses Browning 1911 is:

Short recoil operation with tilting barrel and swinging link, grip safety, single-action trigger and geometry, postive slide lock safety (cocked and locked!), and ergonomics. Talk about iconic.

Calibre isn't design specific in this case. .45 was popular in the era; many more available today. They didn't stop being 1911's after WWII.

Actually the 38 super was designed specifically for the 1911. Not so with the 45, though the 1905 and 6 are close.
