Last week you all helped me on famous lever guns. I bought one and I thank you again.

I want o get a really cool/nice single shot rifle. Perhaps not right away but it is something I am interested in.

What are the most famous/best brands and models of single shot rifles?

The only one I know of is a Ruger #1 and I do like them.

I am thinking about doing one up for African plains game.

Thank you in advance.

For Africa, the Ruger No.1 is your rifle... in the Tropical (H) model there are MANY chamberings to choose from.

I am thinking more of a plains game/stalking rifle. I like the Ruger for sure.

I have a .500NE double rifle and a scoped .375H&H already. Both nice guns. Always room for more.

A nice somewhat lightweight single shot in a classic caliber would be cool...……..like a 300H&H or a 275 Rigby. I was also considering the Highland Stalker but haven't held one yet. In ON we have no gun stores that stock the wild cool stuff really.

Historically some of the most famous or most common.
Winchester high wall, low wall, 1885, B78 all related
Sharps
Remington rolling block

Others include
Stevens 44 1/2
Ballard
Hepburn
A wide selection of break actions

A kipplauf rifle hands down - I love my Jaeger 9 in 7x57r

A win 1885 would be a close second for me - quite a bit heavier though

I have a number one in 9.3 x 74r. In the Ruger I can push 250 grain accubonds to nearly 2700 with ease. This makes for a very flat shooting rifle, in fact it shoots as flat as a 30 ought six with high ballistic coefficient bullets, but hits a lot harder. I know it’s overkill for planes game but it’s nice to have that big calibre when you’re walking around in areas where there are things that can eat you or turn you into a mud pie, furthermore it comes in the lightweight 22” barreled model, not the heavy Tropical. Best part about that rifle, is it’s a sub MOA rifle.I didn’t have to do a thing to it.

Not famous...but nice carry around Octa barrel Husqvarna are around, here's my 30-30, they made them up to 45-70 as well.

Martini Henry , H&R and Snider were both used quite a bit in the early days of the Dominion, and the Springfield in the States.
tgrse days it is the Ruger and Winchestet /Browning however
