I don’t know if the guy involved is a member here but in the off chance I thought I would post this to send the guy a message.

Dear Sir:

You are the guy who brought your daughter with you when you shot trap yesterday afternoon (July 15) at Galt Sportsmen’s Club. I guess she’d be about 5 or 6, right?

While you were preoccupied shooting trap she wandered over onto an idle skeet field. She was moving toward an open area on the range where she would have been in directly in the line from fire of the adjacent field where shooting was taking place when some members saw her. A couple of shooters who were walking by at the moment rushed out onto the field to get her out of potential danger and back to the trap range. You didn’t notice a thing.

I’d also note that while you are diligent about wearing eye and ear protection you don’t think enough of your daughter’s sight and hearing to provide her with the same when she’s at the club.

In short, you’re an idiot. If you are so dense that you don’t realize a shooting club isn’t a children’s playground where they can be left unattended you should probably take up another sport. It you are so uncaring about your child’s safety that you wouldn’t provide safety equipment for her then that’s about all anyone needs to know about your suitability as a parent.

So next time, if you must bring your daughter to the club keep her under control and equip her with ears and eyes. If you can’t do that I’d suggest not coming back.

Sincerely,

Claybuster

He shouldn't have been allowed on the line with his daughter if she didn't have eyes and ears.

"Eyes and Ears" means EVERYONE. The RO should have TOLD him to leave.

The trap range is automated and there isn't an RO on hand. I've mentioned many times previously the absence of ears and eyes to parents who bring their kids and a couple of times called a cease fire until they had acquired property safety equipment. In this situation, I wasn't shooting but watched the events occur from a distance.

Wow, the guy is a complete A-hole and needs to be turfed from the club. This wasn't a 'warning' type of transgression, this was a "don't let the gate hit you on the way out" type of event.

Where was the range officer?

She was moving toward an open area on the range where she would have been in directly in the line from fire of the adjacent field where shooting was taking place when some members saw her.
So, how come no one walked over to him and let him know that his daughter was in danger

I’d also note that while you are diligent about wearing eye and ear protection you don’t think enough of your daughter’s sight and hearing to provide her with the same when she’s at the club.
No ear and eye protection is of course, pure stupidity.

But, the bigger question in all this is "Where is the range officer while all this is going on?" Even if there is no range officer, there is surely someone in charge who would normally walk up to a guy like this and say, "Hey buddy, grab you s**t and get out of here and come back when you have had a common sense lesson."

I find that the club, in this case, is also being negligent. If I were there that day, I would be screaming mad at both the idiot dad as well as the administrators of this range.

Is it just me who sees a bigger problem here than one idiot dad.

But, that is just me.
Robert

I was going to make some comment how it is amazing that people need a safety course, and licence to get a firearm, yet no safety course, and licence to have kids, but I realized that the firearms licence didn't instill common sense in this ass hat either.

Wow... If the guy was that stupid, then he probably didn't even pay for use of the field either.

Hey Clay, was she moving past the skeet high/low houses? (Aka past station 1/7?) If so You should have gone over and smacked him for being stupid. I'd rather lose a member of GSC due to his being turfed than have an incident which could wreck the club and the rest of the membership.

Yeah..right...

It's always "someone elses responsibility."

Don't look at the club or anyone else to ensure your childs safety- It's YOUR kid YOUR responsibility

:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Give the big government lovers enough time and we will need a permit to have a family. Careful what you ask for, you may just get it.

That is not what I said

That is not what I said GATEHOUSE, and by-the-way, I agree that we are all responsible for our own actions, but you have to admit that the club has to be partly responsible for its members.

I was there yesterday but I must have been at the outdoor handgun range while it happened. When I came back for my burger and fries I did see a little girl running around with no parents around her, perhaps its the same girl?

He was spoken to and told what had happened.

Well that's a hard case to make because it WAS one of the club administrators who noted the problem and took immediate action to prevent a problem.

She was near station 8 on field 3 while a group was shooting on field 4. I don't think her father was a member. I would have gone over to him except others got there first. My point in making the post here is to remind parents that a gun club is not a daycare.

Might have been. There were many people, some with kids, around yesterday who aren't members because of of the skeet league shoot.

Any club member should have enough sense in the absence of an RO to take on that responsibility. Anything that dangerous should have triggered a cease-fire, then been brought to the attention of whoever was responsible for the little girl. I always have extra plugs and ear muffs - sometimes they break. It is most unfortunate that the incident was not brought to the attention of the individual and corrected immediately. I guess eventually the CFO will take notice and have to close the club. :bangHead: :slap:

i allways thought it would be benificial to have daycare facilitys at a range they have it at the Ymca her in oshawa the kids are safe and can't walk onto the range and get filled with lead you kids can play with other kids who's parents are like minded as they get older part of the program could offer safty course's from a young age

a note on banning this retard did any one think to cal childs aid on the retard that aughta keep him from shooting also someone had to have a camra on there phone taking his picture and emailing it to every range in the provance to not let him shoot if he has a kid with him

oh and give him a slap upside the head for being so irresponseable he should of been beaten up for his actions

I guess you didn't read the posts. It was an club official that first noticed and immediately got two members to quickly get the kid off the skeet range. The child had not gone beyond the station 8 shooting pad. The shooter was spoken to.

The club doesn't have to bear any resposibility. They give you a safety course, sometimes, and then if your too stupid to follow the rules well that's your problem. Most of the ranges I go to don't even have full time official Ro's. First shooter there is RO or everyone RO's themselves. If you see a problem you go over and mention it to ther shooter, and if it continues contact the administration. Ever take a child to a big play center. They say right up front that they are not responsible for anything that hppens and you haave to stay with your child. If we start saying that the range is responsible they will just not allow children at the range and I can not blame them.

As everyone knows when you first get around guns you sometimes get a bit of "boom fever." I hope this dad just made a mistake and got distracted. (I hope for human kinds sake). But a range is no place for kids that are not aware of it's dangers.

If not and he's really this stupid he should be tuned up by a few fathers behind the woodshed. Remember there is no cure for stupid, but there is a treatment.... :) I'm not advocating violence to correct a problem... actually yes I am.

What a ####ing idiot.
