Nope. Not even close.

270 and 308 are both vanilla. Tried and true but boring. Theyre found everywhere and everybody has them.
Try a 2506 or 260

Both calibers are over-kill for deer.

If you are unimpressed with 270:
-It is not sighted in,or
-You are a poor shot, or
-You get buck-fever, or
-You are using a very poor bullet, or
-A combination of the above.

Based on my field experience, you are probably shooting unsupported at a distance too far for your shooting ability.

I've been using a .270 on deer for 30 years now... have yet to be "unimpressed" in the caliber.

Nope. Not even close.

As compared to 30'06, 303, 308, 45-70, 6.5x55, 30'03 to name but a few, all of which were designed as military cartridges. All good cartridges and more have been produced for hunting since. I was generalizing my point is all.

Everybody knows .270 is for squirrels. Anything bigger, from whitetail to caribou, you need at least a .458 socom.

Many factors as mentioned not to be impressed with the 270 cartridge.
Boring works, 308 all the way..

Only issue we have seen with the 270 is the cheap cup/core 130gr pills are very explody on deer at short range, can get quite a bit of unwanted meat damage.
Easily solved with better pills, or even jumping up to 150gr cheap cup/core.

I also agree. There are too many for it to be a coincidence. All have the same pattern of post abandonment. Unless it is 10 year olds posting this crap.

What would you guys say is a better round for whitetail hunting around 50-100 yards. Currently using .270 but havent been impressed the last 2 years

the issue has been a lack of blood trail, hit 3 deer with complete pass through and have a hard time tracking. i hit a doe and watched her walk away like nothing happened. she died 70yrds in the woods but next to no blood. this year i hit a buck through the lungs at 60yrds and had 0 blood. exit hole looked smaller than the entrance. just wondering if the speed and diamiter of a .270 is a bit much at close range

What exactly is your criteria to become impressed ?

at 50 yards you should do it with any caliber. Are you trying to kill it by throwing the rifle at it ?

The 270 or 308 are not enough gun to harvest small Deer at 50 to a 100 yards,,, your better off with a 408 Cheythec or 50 cal BMG.

Of course a 1973 or 1977 Chev or rusty Ford are the weapons of choice for most game harvests so long as your up to speed. Ha

Just kidding.

Either cartrage will win the day, semi pointed round nose or blunt would most likely show good signs of fast expansion allowing the bullet to do it job up close.

Those chunks of lead are traveling pretty fast up close, nothing like finding a bullet that can transfer rpm into ft-lbs torque.

Metaphorically speaking that is.
