SLR tips, tricks and observations

If it is locking back when empty you have enough gas, and I would start looking at buffer weight and spring rate. I usually adjust my block one more click open from when I get hold open twice in a row.

maybe it's already been said, but here is my tip

Installing the trigger/dis-connector can be fiddly, so I made a dummy pin with a Q tip shaft cut to length of the trigger width, and attached the dis-connector to the trigger. Then I inserted it into the little red box, pushed a punch through to hold it in place, then installed the pin.

Also, if your safety is really tight, try another brand. I used a generic single safety on one receiver and it's tight as hell. the other rifle got an ambi safety from Radical Arms and it's nice and easy to use. I'll probably get another ambi to replace the tight generic one.

Who has the hot ticket on barrels for these? There seems to be an ABUNDANCE of high end barrels available to chose from in 18.6" or 20" length.

Also - anyone had issues with 18.6" and rifle gas systems? or carbine? 20" with rifle?

Was going to make a budget build but realizing quickly that getting accuracy out of it shouldn't add a lot of extra cost, so why not?

Maple Ridge Armoury !

Canadian made barrels in Barrie ! :D

I have a Maple Ridge 223 wylde 18.6 rifle length. Its quality and accurate. MR makes there barrels out of IBI barrel blanks, thats why they are so good apparently.

IBI and MRA make really nice stuff.
I have had no issues with a rifle length gas system on my 18.6 barrels. I run an adjustable gas block and a low mass BCG though.

Ended up buying a Criterion 20" locally. Didn't really want to take a chance on S&J as I've been bitten by QC before, and Criterion is a known quantity for me.

I really wanted rifle length system - and will work well with my Geissele Mk14 rail I picked up at the same time.

I bought an SJ linear compensator, they just machined the flats where ever they wanted it lines up with nothing. Kinda disapointed.

Good call on not getting the S&J...

I have a MR mid length 18.6” Wylde which is a fine barrel . You cannot go wrong with this Canadian made product.

Having never held one until today, I foolishly thought I could swap over a CMC drop-in trigger into the unit. Negatory. I'm talking about the one that's pre-assembled and drops in to a normal AR pack. They don't fit in the little red pack without a bunch of grinding. Time to look for a good trigger for this unit!

It's all done except for better trigger and Surefire brake/FH.

Maccabee SLR - .223 Wylde
Criterion 20" Hybrid contour barrel
Colt BCG
Geissele SMR Mk14 - 15" rail
Nightforce 2.5-10x24 NP1 with z/s
Troy BUIS

Mine went together QUITE easily actually. I slightly crushed the roll pin for the bolt catch as I've seen others say it's tight, and also polished it with a bit of sandpaper. No issues. Did the same with the trigger guard to make it a little more forgiving if the holes are tight.

Trigger - actually it's very easy if you have a punch the same size as the pin, or a 1/2 q-tip as has been used. you install the hammer first, and slide the trigger/disconnector up from below it. I struggled the first few times getting the hammer spring legs on the right side of the trigger pin, but when I finally did it right, I was thinking 'it must be wrong - that was too easy!'.

My CMC drop-in unit does NOT fit, due to the fact that there is a 'clamshell' holding the trigger unit together. It fits inside the red box - but doesn't seat all the way. You COULD do some milling and make it work, but for now just assume pre-assembled triggers won't fit.

Handling it so far it feels really good. The Geissele rail is so narrow and light - it's light years better than a 15" full sided quad rail, as used to be the craze. First MLOK handguard so need to get some accessories to see how to make it feel a little better on the hand. What are the best MLOK panels going right now?

Try it without the trigger pack retaining screw installed. It isn’t necessary and can sometimes twist the pack out of alignment. Leaving it loose will stop the upper from being installed.

I removed the retaining screw - it was torquing the trigger pack ever so slightly and causing a tighter-than-normal safety selector.

Also - does anyone know if this will be approved on my Form 6NIA? :) I have the FRT's and stuff obviously, but wondering if BATF is going to be using the same songsheet as the RCMP.

I guess the worst they can say is 'NO'!

The web site informs us that trigger packs will not fit. So who is to blame when they don’t? You will enjoy this fine receiver set.

Ha no blame buddy - the first time I ever even LOOKED at an SLR was Tuesday, so I'm sure it was disclosed before. Definitely not a complaint - the little red box is one of the reasons it's NR, so more than happy to play within the guidelines. :)

I can't speak for the SLR, but all of our semi autos can be taken stateside on a Form 6N1A despite being classed as weapons of war by BATFE.
I suspect the SLR will fall into the same class,so you should be ok. I would check directly with BATFE however for the definitive answer.
