Best budget rimfire rifle

Thanks for all the replys. I talked to my friend this afternoon and he stated there was a Savage rifle with a mag that he was looking at in Canadian Tire. I'll check out the model the next time I'm there.

Check out the savage website, they run $50 rebates on certain rimfire models until the end of the year.

Mossberg Plinkster .22 semi automatic. 10rnd mag. Less than $200 at Crappy Tire. I have one and really like it. Only tried it on a 25 yd range, but I can put 10 in the 10 ring with it. I've got a red dot on mine, but it would easily take a scope too. I had a few people here try to talk me out of it, but I don't regret purchasing it.

Savage MkII G
Been around forever - aka (lakefield MKII)
Iron sights and grooved for scope mounting
Mags are plentiful and cheap and metal. I like the 5 rounders as they sit almost flush
The 'G' is a wood stock. It's not high end wood by any stretch; but still way nicer than plastic IMHO.

My 2¢

I'd suggest a Ruger 10/22, I think every gun owner needs one or the Ruger American rimfire. Personally own both and they are great guns.

The American rim fire will put 5 five rounds through a ragged hole at 25yds. Good enough for me and same with 10/22. Basic Nikon rimfires on both.

Every licensed firearms owner in my family owns at least one or the other or both, some like myself have multiple 10/22 and the bolt.

Best? If accuracy, quality, function and price come into play, and you are OK with a bolt action rifle, get a Scorpio. They can be bought new for $200.00 -230.00. I have had one for two years and have won a number of competitions with it at our club, and elsewhere. A couple of my friends have bought the same rifle on my advice, and love them. Using CCI Std. Velocity, from a bench-rest at 25 yards, a 10 shot group will consistently go within a 1/2" ragged hole; with a scope, in a hole less than 3/8". These are built in China on tooling bought from Anschutz, and the metal finish is better than any Canadian or US built rifle under $500.00; heck it is a nicer, deeper blue than my CZ. Comfortable stock too.

The newer Ruger bolt action rifle would be on my buy list for sure

Just another vote. I had a Marlin 60 for about 20 years, but let it go when I moved to CAN. Big mistake. The 795 is the same model, except for a magazine so I would go with that. I've had a Savage 64 for about 4 years and it's OK but the magazines are made of pot-metal and the feed lips wore out quickly. I kept 'fixing' them and finally wrote to savage CS. Debbi Roberts promptly sent me replacements. Kudos to her, but I don't know how long these will last, so I can't recommend in good faith unless he likes to 'fiddle' with them:) The gun does 1/2" groups at 25 y with a cheap 4x scope - when it feeds!!

Honestly I own a bunch of different firearms right from civil war era to the new tactical stuff, big calibers and small.

The Ruger American rim fire is one of my favourite firearms right now, cheap to shoot and relatively inexpensive to buy.

Marlin 795, had this little gun before, full of fun. Had a combo deal with simmons 3-9x32 scope mounted on less than $300. Eats almost all brands of ammo without any issue. Great for plinking and out for hunting.

Go find an old cooey at a gunshow or on the EE. You will not be disappointed. Nice piece of canadian history.

I just may add one of them to my group they are that good..

Note to mention, iff'in yew take the training wheel awf the trigger awn them RAR,
the trigger pull sets around one pound of pull.
I own one and they are accurate for the price point.

Mark another one for an older Cooey. A model 60T or otherwise. Can usually be had for around the $200.00 mark or less. A great, workable piece of Canadian history!

Honestly if your using it for magpies, and small pest control I would honestly think of 17 hmr. Flatter shooting than the 22 and capable of taking everything up to a coyote. Great farm calibre in my opinion.

You can have a wood stocked heavy barreled 93R17 for under $500
