New scope for .30-06

I'm looking for a replacement for that cheap Simmons scope that came with my Savage 111. It's cloudier than my Bushnell Rimfire scope, and the rings came loose after 60 rounds fired. Since the Bushnell Rimfire is the best and most expensive scope I currently own, it won't take much to impress me. All I'm looking for is a scope that will hold its zero with a .30-06 and is adjustable 3-9x mag. Are there scopes out there that will serve somewhat reliably for this purpose for say $100-150, or will I have to fork out $300+ to accomplish this goal? It's my first centerfire rifle, and I have no experience shooting any others (scoped anyway).

Thanks in advance for the help ladies and gents!

If you really don't want to break the bank, and you want a "cheap" reliable scope, go to Walmart and get yourself a Bushnell Dusk-Dawn. I had one on my 30-06 deer gun for years and never had a problem with it. I think it cost me 99 bucks and came with a free set of mini binos. The scope has long been replaced, but the binos are going strong.

It is true you get what you pay for, but not everyone can afford to break the bank on glass.

Go to the EE and buy a used Bushnell 3200 in either 3x9 or 2x7. They usually go for about $200 and come with a lifetime warranty.

Spend what you are comfortable with. Bushnell Dusk to Dawn, or the Legend series. I had a Tasco World Class on my 30-06 for a couple of season, I failed me once and Tasco / Bushnell (same warranty return address - sorry guys) replaced it without incident. (I must confess that I have seriously upgraded though).

Oh yeah, one more thing. Lose the rings and bases that came with the package.

Well from the looks of things, it appears that I'm going to have to get a 3200 elite or VX1. I've heard that Leupold is a little better for warranty issues, and also that the warranty is transferable. Are the Bushnells the same? And considering that I live in Calgary, 15 mins away from the guy in Okotoks where I'd need to send it, would I be much better off getting the Leupold? I kinda figure why buy the Buick when the Cadillac has a (better?) lifetime warranty? And also better than going through 3 Ford Escorts (read: <$150 scopes) before finally making the wise choice ;). Also, the VXII is $100 more than the VXI. Is there a very large difference between the scopes? The only shame in all of this is how much cheaper they are south of the border. Some things are just better not to think about. Oh, and one more thing: Which base/rings would be best? I've seen 2 mentioned on here a lot, Leupold QDs and Burris zee rings. What about a base? The savage 111 isn't really a toploader with the detachable mag, so is either a one or two piece base ok?

A two pc Weaver base set up with Burris Zs will work fine and not break the bank.

I've use the same set up on several rifles including 375H&Hs with no problems.

Link to this bushnell offer with the jacket?

IIRC, Bushnell makes good scopes (3200) but has horrrrrible customer service apparently.

I've dealt with Bushnell on three separate occasions. I'd rate the customer service I received on those 3 trips from Good to Very Good.

I certainly would not rate it as horrible, esp w/o any personal experience.

Sorry Jimbo, I don't have a link. There was a ad in this months issue of Ontario Out of Doors Magazine. I scanned the ad below.
The guy at my local gunstore gave me the application when I purchased my 3200 earlier this month. You have to send the UPC from the scope box, a copy of the store receipt and $15 to cover shipping when you mail the application. My coat was actually delivered today. Took less than 3 weeks. It's actually quite nice. The outer is a brown cotton duck, like Carthart or Tough Duck, and has a liner.

A used, like-new condition, Leupold VariX 3x9 Compact from the EE is what I mounted on my latest .30-06 Featherweight :D Affordable, reliable, rugged...these words sum up Leupold optics in a nutshell. Commitment to customer satisfaction is another of Leupold's strong points :)

I would rate thier customer service horrible, and I have personal experience with them.

Nice hard effort on your part though  :D

With over 20years customer service experience myself, I know there are just some customers that can't be pleased, no matter how hard you try. :D

Cant keep very many happy customers with junk products. Were you selling Trashnell products? Cause you should be on thier payroll... :D
