In the above italics you chastise the media for their poor reporting practices. But that high horse of yours sure doesn't stop you from adding your opinion based on your emotional reaction.

The bottom line is that the dad has to live with this new life because of choices made that cascade back minutes, days,weeks and years by himself and others. From choosing to make a camp there and leaving the cabin when he did to check the trap line. I am not blaming him but he is the one left to suffer along with any remaining kin. May he and they find some peace one day.

Shockley is using this tragedy to try and make some cash. It's horrible what happened. He's trying to make this tragedy about himself.

And you are entitled to your simpleness. Clearly life is black and white especially with what the news reported, no room for anything else to have happened because the news said she was out for a walk. Ever think the reporter may be speculating? But no, theyve never done that.

Yes change the rules so Jim Shockey can sell more wilderness Grizzly hunts and we will all be sooo much safer.

Better yet, allow someone with a commercial interest to determine wildlife management for all of us and see how that goes.

I am sure this couple would have known the risks better than most of us armchair opinion spewers but deemed the rewards of their wilderness rich lifestyle to be worth it all.
I doubt that they were wishing that Mr. Shockey's quota could have been increased so that the wilderness could have been made safer (and by association, less wild) for them...
RIP to the mother and child. May there always be families like this, living this lifestyle.

Let’s also remember it makes literally zero difference to Jim’s bottom line if the Grizzly hunt was closed in the Yukon too. He doesn’t make his money off his outfit anymore hasn’t in a long time, let alone an add on species like Grizz where he is. To a guy in his position it’s small beans and all about seeing his world close in one hunt at a time, that and needless to say a personal connection to the Yukon and its people is where the emotion stems from.

Why does he charge so much then if he doesn't make money off of his outfit, and doesn't need it as you make it sound.
 
Yep, if you paid half for your house what it’s worth today, and your retirement is secure and you don’t need the extra money, suppose you’d sell it at half market on principle.

Jim’s main income, by far, is media, licensing and endorsements these days. Running a business that services well is just plain good decision making like the house. Grizzlies, an add on species in the Yukon at rates that you couldn’t make work in B.C. when we had the hunt, isn’t changing a thing in the Shockley household finances. He’s just pissed off here watching his world shrink, we all know the feeling.

I think the point is how it is shrinking, and the result of that is, in his view as well as many others, a big factor in why this woman and baby lost their lives.

Edit to add - "his world" is the world of all hunters and like-minded outdoors people. The "other world" is the world of the city person who has no idea of the concept that we are part of nature. That world is driving the changes that negatively affect our world.


Not to put any words into Ardent's mouth, but that's my take.

I don't see this at all. He' simply voicing what many know/feel already. IMO he's got enough business to take him and his Family any where they want to go.

I'm certain it is another plea to change the status quo when it comes to the Grizzly.
