Where do you shoot a Giraffe in the neck/head or through the shoulder?

In this case the bleached skull and hide will come home. I will probably make a couple chairs or a couch out of it. They are bigger than they look in the picture, and my wife didn't want a full body mount in the living room.

Counting air-fare and tips, but not shipping or taxidermy I'm at 30 grand, Canadian. Considering that this is for 2 safaris in different countries not too terrible really. I can't wait to go back!

My God -- did everyone see that third picture, the one of the second impala? Somewhere under the moustache, there actually seems to be a twisted sardonic grimace that could, if you look at it just right, be construed as a smile. And based on past safari pictures, I think we all know that Dogleg NEVER smiles!!!
Congrats on a fine trip -- and particularly that great looking buffalo. And thanks for the past postings that served as inspiration to get my butt in gear and head there myself. Next Tuesday, A-Zone and I (along with a few other friends) are heading to the Eastern Cape for a 10-day plains game hunt. Stay tuned for pics!

They go through a lot of trouble to set up pictures, including clearing grass and brush. We pulled the giraffe up into position with the Land Cruiser, then propped it up with sticks and such.

I researched the shot placement for the heart-lung shot, quizzing PHs and the Perfect shot book. Boer Sean found me an article in Afrikaans as well. When the time came to take the shot at little more than 20 yards I was faced with a shot through the brush at the heart or a clear shot at the lower neck. It all worked out, and the giraffe looked like a crane falling over when the 300 grain .375 solid hit. I put 2 finishers into its chest on the ground.

The situation in Zimbabwe is grim, with the place needing a lot of improvement just to qualify as a third world country. Is there a fourth world? Price controls on food were brought in just as I got there, forcing shop owners to sell food at half of their own cost. Of course they locked the doors at that point and arrests were being made. People are hungry, some starving though I never saw that part. What it's going to take before somebody shoots that Coc*****er is beyond me.

The eastern Cape is beautiful by all accounts, but is known for some put and take hunting. Of course you checked all that out already and I'm looking forward to your pictures.
