1911 or CZ75/85?

My 7th CZ just arrived today. I sold my only 1911 (Dominion Arms NP27) but plan on picking up a USGI style 1911 in the future.

I use my CZ75 SP01 more than my 2 1911's. The thin alum grips made my CZ thinner than my 1911.

My NP27 never ran very well, but wasn’t horrible. My NP22 ran amazingly. I had only one failure (to feed) in over 1700 rounds, 1000 of that being Barnaul. Only problem is the slide stop is in the wrong spot for me so it would never lock back on an empty mag.
Some Norcs are good stuff, some are pretty bad, depends upon your first experience. The 1911 models has proven well, as well as the NP22s. M305, CQ311, AR15?? pattern rifles have proven them selves as well.

I agree with getting one of each, the CZ line is excellent - I've owned a few - and 1911's are great. I'll break away from the consensus and say that I actually prefer 1911's in 9mm than .45 because of mild arthritis in my hands. If you decide to buy a CZ and a 1911, remember the adage "buy once cry once" especially with the 1911. Get a quality 1911 and enjoy. If you want to tinker, the Norc's are hard to beat, but an off the shelf quality 1911 is the way I do things now. Personally I lean toward Dan Wesson's, though my tuned STI Trojan is awesome. Unfortunately STI no longer makes those and what they go for, when you can find them, is obscene. I should have bought two for $1100 when they were going for that.

They're good starter guns. But that's about it. Show me a bone stock Norc winning any "matches"? They have their place. Just never at the podium.
Sure you pay 400$ for a pistol. But how many sink double that into a Norc 1911. When they could have just bought a quality gun from the start?

Ive won club nights with my 600$ Sp01.. Most people that say norcs are great. Have tones of money into them. That in the end, they could have bought a quality gun.
Or you get people that want a target pistol... Oh you should look at a norc? Maybe why people run them into the dirt.
Cheap doesn't always mean better.
I have 1911s in 45acp and a CZ 75b in 9mm. If I had to get rid of the best 1911 or the CZ, I would be hard pressed to make the decision.
Most of the pros and cons for both have already been listed here, leaving them about equal for different reasons. Since you're on a budget, start with the CZ just because of the cheaper ammo - you won't regret it. That being said, save up for a 1911 - you won't regret that either. LOL.
Just for the record, my Colt 1911 definitely has better fit and finish, BUT my Norinco 1911 outshoots it! I bought one of the newer Norcs that have adjustable sights and a much better trigger, plus the finish is better than the older ones.
At any rate, if you are like the rest of us, you'll never stop at just one, or two, or...…..

For your $700 budget the two best buys for you are the 92FS or the 75B. Good examples can be had at that price pointl. Both are reliable pistols. The 92FS variant, the M9 served the US Military for a very long time. You can't go wrong with either. Either one would be better than a $700 1911. Either will last you a life time.

As with most things in this world, you get what you pay for. If a person is going to shoot in matches, they would most likely buy a more expensive gun than a person who is just shooting targets for fun. I agree they aren't as good as the guns they are knock offs of, but they aren't anywhere near as costly either. My earlier point was that Norincos are great guns for what they cost. If someone is going to spend a pile of money on modifications to make a cheap gun better, they are better off buying a better, more expensive gun in the beginning. I also agree with others that the OP should buy both. Most of us can't own just one.
I totally disagree; the long reset of the 92's trigger is, to put it plainly, absurd when compared to the CZ75/85 not to mention the double action pull. I can not comment on the C10, as I have never fired one. For modern 9mm CZ is the one to beat.
OK but the CZ 9MM maybe very good in some iterations for playing IPSC. but I am not so sure about your concerns about the 92's reset. I also know a fellow at our club who can do double taps as fast as anyone else I have see shoot and he does it with a Beretta 96 40 cal. I have never felt my rest on any of my CZ's or other guns for that matter when shooting action shooting so I will take your word for
The trigger group for most of the CZ's line was designed in 1975 which probably doesn't make it into the "modern" design league. From the factory other than the very high end CZ's the triggers on the 75B/85Combats are pretty average compared to any of the most recent striker fired pistols. eg XD, PPQ and SIG 320 XFive. Unless the OP spends some money on a decent trigger job he will miss out on a much better trigger on the PPQ for instance. or for that matter a 92FS. The rest is is only 1/10th of an inch on the PPQ. My 92A1 out of the box had a much better trigger than my 75B New Edition and cost $450 less. With the short reach trigger the reach, the reset on both are about the same. But like I said I'll take your word for it.
The Shadow 2 comes with a very nice trigger. But my regular Shadow is not much better than my stock 75B New Edition. Both, with work can be made much better. The OP did suggest he was on a budget so I doubt he wants to spend a lot on a trigger job.
