.35 Remington for Moose

Amphib - shut it.

Bones - ... hehehe ok that was funny, but shut it anyway.

Rollingrock - I think everyone has something important to bring to this discussion. I think what YOU should bring is silence. :)

Now - play nice!! Or you all have to hunt with remmy 710's next year. :D

some jerkoff pulling stunts like machine gunning 4ft bears with a seriously inadequate hunting firearm. so pathetic

:puke:

Another uneducated ignorant little punk described SKS as machine gun, thanks to some anti-semiauto greedy old outfitters. :puke:

Okay, now that Foxer gave the word, I'm out here. :)

Marlin 336

I'd be using a Marlin 336SC in .35 Remington.

Mine's taken a few deer, Too bad the old winchester silver tip is not made any more, they're devistating on deer

The little .35 rem will bring down a moose and the 336 will group under 1.5" at 100m, which is less than minute of moose accuracy. but stick to 200 gr bullets. I think hornady still make these in their xtc and sierra has a 200 or 220 (the 220 will not seat to OAL). Or you could try these https://www.hornady.com/shop/Ammo_LEVER_popup.htm
they look promising

Well under the theory that you want 1500 ftlbs or better to stomp a moose well, looks like those little pills will do it almost out to 200. And they kill out of proportion to their energy, so chances are it'd be a bad day for bullwinkle if you lit into him with one at the 50 yards you're talking about :)

energy is great for comparing stuff on paper, but a moose doesnt really give a #### how much energy it gets hit with. A 45/70 loaded with a 405 grain bullet @ 1350 fps hits 100 yards with almost the same energy as a 125 grain out of a 7.62x39. Which one will work better? Moose, and other big game, are killed by destruction of vital organs, which are found behind heavy muscle and bone. The bullet has to be able to get in there to do some damage...:)

No - cause if you hit 'em with enough they're dead :) and therefore don't care about anything anymore :D

I know i know - it's a long way from the be all end all, but the point was that knowing the 35 is able to kill better than it's energy suggests, AND knowing that it's energy level is higher than what's 'generally accepted' as being necessary, it makes a very strong argument that it'd be more than enough gun for moose in the application he's talking about :) That's all i meant.

125gr @ 2300 vs. 150gr @ 2400fps

look at it percentage wise 25gr and 100fps becomes a substantial difference. lets not forget bullet selection and accuracy of chambered firearms. wins go to the .30-30 in both cases.

couldn't you load the x39 a little hotter with heaver bullets and shoot them out of a ruger 77 or a cz 527

Why sure you could. A heavier bullet. Great idea. And a bigger case behind it. Those rifles could handle it.

What would we call this new round?

Hmmmm....

Maybe, the 308 winchester!

Yeah, that's it....:D

now normally I would return fire but its a sunny day I have the rest of the week off work to go home so Ima happy, oh and rolling pebble don't get so excited, life's short and lets face it everyone online knows YOU SUCK :p

Amphib and I are sure glad you realize It was YOU and Foxer he was calling the "old pricks"

Well for example if you were looking from the perspective of a 12 yr old He would be ancient

I dunno - SOME days i think the average 12 year old might well tell him to "stop that and grow up" :D He just gets bigger toys than they do :D

I'M old and a prick, if that helps. :D :D

I have a Moose draw--will report on how the 35 Rem does. It's a shared tag with wife son and myself so between the 30-30 and the 35 we got all angles covered;) and maybe two moose to fill the freezer.

I won a female tag for the zone that I will be hunting in, so I'll be covered both ways. Just hoping I don't miss, :D didn't see a thing last year.

also, medium weight, fast bullets that are designed stout penetrate well. Think meth crazed junkie in a stolen Chevy Celebrity going full throttle through a special needs picnic, while being chased by the police

Hahaha, Snort! {wipes beer off monitor, and keyboard} :D

yes, and you could probably do the same with a 30-30

point is, 7,62x39 is a POS cartridge..for hunting animals :)

It happens to be the number one Deer cartridge in many places with brush in the world. :)
But I'd say not for Moose.
