Wow just saw the news no price increase for hunting licences in Ontario and no more BS $2.00 service fee.

Be still my beating heart!!!!

I was getting ready to apply for a 2nd mortgage to pay for mine this year!

I’m in the minority, admittedly without understanding Ontario’s system in the slightest, who would like to see tag prices higher for both resident and non-resident and all money put into conservation efforts not general revenue. Will never grumble at investing in the future of wildlife, however I will readily concede in many jurisdictions including BC tag revenue is squandered under the present system.

Ardent, in Ontario (in my opinion) the previous Govt. jacked up fees every year while simultaneously cutting services and wasting money. It was very frustrating. This is not a big amount of money, but symbolically, its very positive for us Ontarians.

Since John Yakabuski has been appointed as the Minister of Natural Resourses, good things are happening. John is a stand up guy and someone i trust. I have known him for many years and i strongly support him

The revenue from hunting and fishing licences in 2018 was in the vicinity of $60 million in Ontario. I'd like to know the amount spent on conservation and enforcement. I'm willing to bet it's significantly less.

To my understanding the goverment was to use licence fees towards outdoor wildlife projects

Sadly they took money out of the fund and spent it on other not wildlife projects

I read an article a few years back that identified the MNR gets 12% of the revenue from license fees and such.
I also remember getting a letter from the MNR when they first introduced fishing licenses in Ontario. The letter said the license fees were going to be used for restocking lakes in the area where you purchased your licence. I believe that has fallen by the wayside and the majority of the funds go to pay for the conservation officers salaries. Anyone else remember this?

After this winter, I can't see the wild turkeys or boars making any progress north.

Where are you at?

I live in Muskoka-Parry Sound and its been a pretty good winter. Its started a bit early, but it really hasnt materialized to much of anything at this point. Not a lot of snow. Not very cold. Hell, I went out to check my favourite lake and there still open water. Most years its locked solid by this point.

What do you expect? Have you seen the new tags and licence summery you have to carry? Printed on standard paper and ink. Yep, if you are real lucky you print your own at home using your paper and ink!. Retailers have figured this out and are dropping services as it costs them supplies to issue licences And the revenue they make isn't worth it.

And it's illegal to copy your tag ...

If you see the #### we have to carry right now to hunt wolves it's a friggen joke. Carry the tags and summary in a zip lock bag in order to keep them legible for being checked by a CO. Good luck in the fall with your moose and deer tags.

So before everyone gets too happy, remember that MNR is not paying to produce wolf, turkey, moose and deer tags and that cost has been downloaded to you or the issuer.

So bottom line is the price remains the same for an inferior product.

If your'e talking about taking out a mortgage with what you guys pay at present, just be thankful that your'e a Canadian. As a Non-Resident landowner in Ontario with all the land I need to hunt over you would not want to be paying for my tags that's for sure!!!!!
Be Happy!

Plus:
I have Moose that I can't even hunt!!!!!
