I'm looking at possibly buying a couple of Boyd's stocks and am wondering from anyone that has recently bought from them what the duties are at the border usually and if its possibly cheaper to get one from a dealer in canada?

Their shipping is like $60US as well, duty would be around $70 for the cheapest option they have if it gets tagged.
Gets expensive real quick.

Ya that's kind of what I figured. One guy I talked to said that whatever your stock is in usd basically double it and that's what it will cost by the time you get it. I just want to make sure that's what to expect before I buy anything from them

Duty is 5% GST on the value in CAD plus $9.95 handling fee from Canada Post (if they ship USPS).

Hitzy, not sure where your $70 value comes from unless they only ship UPS - if that is the case then all bets are off on the UPS blood money fees......

Rodder - was it only GST plus CP handling or were there other duties/fees? How does Boyds ship?
I've been looking at an At-One as well......

guinup you might try contacting Blue Mountain and see if they are still a Boyds Dealer in Canada:

Jerry at Mystic Precision stopped importing them.

That's what they hit me with on my last stock, 98 Varmint that was $125USD.
Just got hit with $28 on a $45USD pipe last week too, which sucked.

Via USPS/Canada Post?

USPS is how they were both shipped.

I don't remember exactly how much duty was but I remember my at-one with the vertical grip being $400-430 after conversion, taxes and duties. The barrel channel wasn't nearly wide enough for my barrel and the mag cut out was too small for a mag so needless to say I wasn't too happy.

Boyd's have been at the game for a long time... usually if a stock does not fit, it is because the buyer did not read all of the "fitting notes" properly and ordered incorrectly... most stocks will be 100% drop in, the ones that were not, usually only required minor fitting and this was usually in the notes, so I knew in advance that it would be a possibility, sanding out a barrel channel is a five minute job with a dowel and 60/120/200 grit paper, and then three swabs of Tru-oil, which matches the Boyd's satin finish nicely... when in doubt call them directly. I have ordered well over a hundred stocks from Boyd's, my last one was an At-One for a Browning T-Bolt. Shipping is $50-$55 USD per stock, they always ship postal (USPS/CP). Only about half the stocks are processed for taxes and fees at the border, it is a random crap shoot whether or not you will get dinged, my last order came through with no import fees.

I was talking to Macon Gunstocks earlier this week and they can no longer ship to Canada due to changes in laws in the States. As they are not a licensed firearm manufacturer, they cannot ship gun parts. They used to ship semi inletted as "unfinished wood product", but someone in their gov't has now said that they cannot do that, as the stock is a gunpart, even unfinished.
They can ship to an US address. Trying to see if it can then be imported through a broker.

Have not been able to get through to Boyds to see if same.

Prophet River can import them for you.

Prophet River can probably get them for you.
Or look at their B&C stocks...$400 better spent.

I wish those B&C stocks for Ruger were made for the M77 MKII/Hawkeye, they are only made for the American, which makes no sense to me.

Last Boyd's I got was from Prophet, they had them on for $150 so I bit.
Not a huge thumbhole guy, but this one fits pretty good. Bedded it and it cut my groups in half from the OEM stock.
Recoil is tamed pretty good too.

Mine was shipped mid Jan. $59.95 Took two day to get into Canada and clear Customs. Yahoo!!!
Now it's on day 7... sitting in MISSISSAUGA.
I feel confident it's in the safe hands of our Canada Post and should make it to my door by summer.
