O.K. guys! I can't sell this gun! I think my price is probably too high because otherwise the rifle is great! It's a Winchester m70 .270 XTR sporting a 3200 Bushnell rain guard/firefly. It has bluing wear at the muzzle, hunting marks and scuffs but beyond that it's great! I've had lots of offers about it (one "taken") and a really low ball one but nothing yet.

What should it really sell for?

"...my price is probably too high..." Without knowing what you're asking, you're probably right. The rifle sounds like it's well used. Used scopes don't add much to the price. Maybe $100 or so. Touch up the muzzle wear with cold bluing.
Mind you, it may just be the wrong time of year. Used .270's tend to sell better closer to deer season. You won't get anywhere near what you paid for the whole package though.
Epp's is listing a Win 70 in .270 at $529 with rings and bases, but no scope or sights.

Here's what I would do, Mike. Wait until about six weeks before big game opens in your area then advertise in your local papers and buy & sell as a package (rifle, scope, rings and bases) for $600 obo or may be willing to sell the rifle alone for $500. Someone will see the advantage to buying the package and will pay you a reasonable sum. It's all in the wording and timing. Here on CGN we tend to be fussy (cheap) whereas the general population is more...umm...innocent? ;) :) Hang in there and you'll do OK. Don't stoop to some lowball offer (unless it's mine ;))

The price and rifle look good but I already have a .270. Leave it up for another month or two, like the other guys said, deer season is coming and a .270 Win is a great deer rifle.

Mike,

I'd say advertise around besides here. I find here everyone is waiting for that steal of a deal, and a "fair" price can take a long time to move. As well you've got to look at similar rifles selling right now. There are several 270's up for sale right now, so that doesn't help any. Your price seems fair. Or trade it to me for my Auto 5!

I have a 270 on the EE as well. Not may bites for me either. Maybe priced too high. I don't get all worried when stuff doesn't sell. I sell guns cuz I want to, not because I have to.

There is a few 270s on the EE right now. Seems everyone wants the WSM version over the slow, inefficient, archaic, Winchester flavour.

.

- there isn't a single pic of the full gun
- no mention is made of the scope (the 3200 is pretty good and worth mentionning)
- show the muzzle wear. Make clear it's the bluing, not the metal that's worn
- it's worth $500 IMO, but a new Savage costs less
- state "+ shipping" or "shipped"
- while the 270 is a fantastic round, it is "old" and some people want something new.

I suggest that you try better pics and a better description and hold to your price, dropping it $50 a week until you can't drop it anymore.

In a model 70 most guys prefer the CRF model, it drives down the value of the pushfeed models. Tyically they are heavier that thier 700 counterpart. The PF model 70 just doesn't turn guys cranks as much as other models.

It's a bit like the ruger mark 11 compared to the tang safety model.

I'd buy it, if I were at all interested in a 270. I like model 70's, and nonna that plastic/ss ugliness, either! :p But that's a good price.

Still, I have 2 suggestions - part it out. I hate buying package deals, I want to add my own scope, dammit. Plus, you'll probably get more for it by selling them separately anyways.

Also, like the others have mentioned - I bet you'll have no problems at all selling it in a month or two.

lots of good Advice, but whats a new one cost, scope and rifle also how long did you use it? I never usualy have a hard time selling. I do like to make money but if I payed 500 for something used it for 5 years and sold it for 300 I would be happy..that works out to 40 bucks a year....my cost.. but thats just me...

I think way to manny people are trying to make big bucks

my two cents

I think it has alot to due with just general pricing on the EE as of late and folks are just giving up looking, $500 with scope is a good deal but by the time you get to your add theres been 20 ads that are just out to lunch on there prices, good point also Tango, its USED sell it as used, if you dont have to sell it well then your price your terms but remember its only worth what someone is willing to pay for it in the end.
