So I can't find my T97 recoil spring, can't find a replacement, and I'm trying to find one that's close or have one made.

Could anyone please tell me some measurements of a T97 recoil spring?

I'm looking for the OD, wire size or ID, overall length, and number of coils.

I'd really appreciate it.

Cut 3” off a m305 spring, or to about 11 1/4”...it works better than the one it came with. Imo this gun is grossly over gassed. The m14 spring slows down extraction and saves the brass as well.

Where can I buy this m305 spring? I am all for reducing the over gassed status as all my shells fly at 2 o'clock. My T97 works no prob but if there is anything I can improve it I will certainly try

Thanks for the replies!

North Sylva might have one in stock. I’m waiting for a call back.

I’ve cut 2.25” off of an M305 spring so far and it’s working well on #2 gas setting. When I get back home I’ll grab a tape and cut it to the length you suggested slyty. Feels like #2 might be a bit much.

Much appreciated and thanks again!

Cheers

Oh, Brownells has m14 springs lavino.

They're the same diameter as an AK recoil spring. I got a "low recoil" one but it's much too heavy for the T97, I've been meaning to pick up a "normal" one and try it.

Looks like a goodie to me lavino. I’d start conservative with how much to chop off tho. Wolff springs aren’t always an exact copy of the original.

What kind of tool is required to cut these springs? For the greater good, may be I will buy 2 of these and cut them by 1/2 an inch or 1/4 an inch incremental taking turn and test fire them until they start to lock open a 1 round map. Can this tool be easily carried over to the range? If so I will do this experiment after the new year. If we all do these similar test I am sure we can set up some sort of knowledge base for each brand of springs and which length to cut. At the end of the day I will always have my factory spring to fall back on It will be after the new year for me as I will need to go to the outdoor range to do this and I am currently in the middle of building my first AR upper so I can imagine I will spend a bit of time on that first but let's do this!

So the rifle runs well with the M305 spring cut to 11 3/16". Thanks again slyty!

I was getting slamfires until that last 1/16th. The bolt hold open doesn't always work, but I'll try trimming a bit more. It didn't work at all with 2 1/4" cut off.

Very happy boy!

The tool I'm using is a cordless angle grinder, lavino.

Cheers

Yes, position 1 is still lots of gas. Still throws brass but dosent damage them much. Just a little dimple on them. Defiantly reloadable. Oh, make sure your bolt has full travel rearward and cut the spring accordantly.

Update:

The T97 is running really well so far with the M305 spring cut to 11 1/8". The brass isn't going into orbit, but they're still landing about 18' away.

Here are the specs if anyone's interested:

11 1/8" OAL
77.5 coils total, with 3 tight together
.45 OD
.0565 wire size

Cheers!

18 feet away?

Another update:

T97 was happily slam firing away again with pretty much every second trigger pull. Cut the spring down to 10 1/4" and it seems to have fixed it. We'll see.

It worked well on the #2 gas setting before I cut it, but it was a bit harsh.

Yeah, the cases still land about 18 feet away I'd guess.

SKS spring!

I don’t know if anyone’s still interested, but I kept having slam fires with the m305 spring. I cut a couple more coils off, but it felt unsafe when I reassembled the rifle and I couldn’t bring myself to shoot it.

Today I tried an SKS spring, had a slam fire, then shortened spring by one coil. It’s cycled perfectly for 80 rounds so far and feels good!

Fingers crossed!

Let us know how the AK spring works Jarvy!

I have one on order since you mentioned trying the low recoil version. I also ordered an xp M1A spring. Thought it might be modified to work with the #2 gas setting.

Cheers
