Has anyone bought Hirtenberger 7.62x51 NATO from Tenda recently?

A while ago I bought from Marstar, 5K a berdan prime and 3K of boxer prime.
I don't keep my empties but as far as performance go the berdan prime are more accurate in my M1A and my FNAR rifle, not by much but they are more accurate so if I have the choice I will take the berdan prime over the boxer prime.

They also are more rapid around a hundred feet per second more rapid than the boxer.

Recently bought 500rds of lake city, and a 240 rd battle pack from tenda. the battle pack was in a cardboard box, not sealed in plastic, the rounds have corrosion . Emailed tenda.... no response. The lake city has copper jackets, though the seating depth is all over the map.

It is a known fact that Lake stuff is not up to the quality of the Hirt. I once bought some Lake and i had my Lesson.

Thanks!

I've heard that the Berdan primed Hirtenberger is more accurate.

Thanks, JD!

That's not good to hear. From what I've read, it's usually the Hirtenberger in the green battle packs that has corrosion issues.

Thanks for letting me know, Rooster.

How is the Lake City?

I was going to buy some, but Springfield Armory advises against using loose packed ammo in their M1A's.

The lake city seems to be good. Ive gone through about 100 rds at 100m. It seems the supply of everything is drying up as lake city only appears to be the remaining bulk 308 in canada. Even hert is drying up. I noticed the same with 7.62x54 and cant help but wonder if it is a quasy monopoly on distributors part. The difference in ammo prices between us and the usa has no other explanation. Anyways on the look out for pmc at a reasonable price as tenda is out

The berdan primed stuff can be swaged and then be like any other brass though no? At least I hope so, cause I have some being sent to me from an EE purchase

Berdan 308 brass is scrap.

Berdan brass can be reloaded. It is a pain. Very slow and tedious, assuming you can find the right primers.

I have loaded Berdan from time to time, but only in calibers for which Boxer brass is unavailable.

I have shot some of the Lake City ammo in my M-305 and it does not group as well as the Hirtenberger. I am planning to buy another case of Hirtenbeger in the near future, to add to what I have already stashed...

Yeah, it's hard to find any good stuff up here.

I phoned Federal and wanted to arrange a big order of GM762M2 175 grain match rounds, but I guess they don't want the business.

Sales said that they were too busy to talk to me and never did call me back.

I guess $250K US worth of business is too small for them.

I've heard that Hirtenberger is pretty accurate.

I'm finding myself not able to trust it though due to the corrosion issues. At first it seemed to be confined to the Boxer primed ammo form the 80's, but JD seems to be having the same problem with the 70's Berdan primed ammo.

Hmm I bought some Tenda recently too, I’ll have to inspect it

Apparently, it's a problem with a chemical that's in the boxes the rounds come in.

The corrosion occurs where the cartridge comes into contact with the box.

The M14 forum has some pictures of what the cases look like when they're cross-sectioned.

They're basically corroded right through the case wall.

I've been sitting on a few packs for about half a year.

Should I pull them out of the box and put them in ziplock bags?

Ziploc bags won't be any good unless you throw in desiccant packs. I still wouldn't do that though.

It would be better to put them on stripper clips and store them in bandoleers (if you can find some) inside of ammo cans.

I wouldn't leave them in those boxes though. They seem to be the cause of the corrosion.
