Good morning all,
I'm looking for some advice on a new hunting shotgun. I'm looking for something Lefty friendly, 12GA, well suited to a variety of tasks, be it turkey hunting, walking for grouse, or in a blind for geese. I would like to buy new, and budget is about $700.
Let me know your suggestions!

What specifically in LH features are you looking for, as a south paw I find the only thing awkward to use is the safety if it’s a crossbolt varsity. Everything else is easier to use as a lefty, you don’t have to take your dominant hand off the trigger. Your support hand can do it all and is on the same side as the loading port.

Well, the crossbolt safety is the biggest issue, unless it's a semi-auto, then I don't like the gasses blowing back in my face.
The tang safety on a Mossberg 500 is pretty good, but I'm hoping to get something a bit nicer than a 500.

If I was looking for something in a pump it would be an Ithaca M37 or the BPS but I’m not a huge fan of the bottom feed. I really like how easy it is to visually check the chamber on a normal right hand pump gun, I found adding a jumbo safety to my 870’s really makes the crossbolt safety easier to get used to.

I hear you on the 500, nothing against the Mossberg but I don’t generally gravitate to them.

If you’re looking for a semi-auto, I highly recommend a left handed Armsan A612. Its a great gun and within your price range. I did a review on mine a while back. Here is the link https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/1503636-Review-of-Armsan-A612-left-hand

If you’re leaning toward a pump, also have a look at Mossbergs. The tang safety is great for left handed shooters

This ^^^^^

Mossberg also makes bonafide LH 500's now, top tang safety lefthand ejection port, about $500.

Good point about the gasses from a semi. I wondered if that would be an issue.
As a lefty I find the rem 870 to be fine. No issues with manipulation or operation.
An O/U is even better for handling. Fully ambi. Seems to fit the bill for grouse. Don't know about Turkey and Goose. Only 2 rounds.

Interesting! I'd never heard of that shotgun before. I will definitely have to consider that.

I actually currently have a o/u as my all purpose shotgun. I'm not opposed to replacing it with another one, this one just doesn't seem to fit me right.

Here's my thoughts.... I shoot left handed (modtly blind in my right eye so no choice). I alsp had a RH semi auto .22lr blow up in my face once. If it wasn't for priper PPE I might not be able to see out of either eye right now....

If your budget is $700, you're a little limited. Personally, I shoot a LH Benelli Super Black Eagle 2. I paid $1,800 for it at the time (which almost made me faint at the time, as I had never spent that much on a gun before), but it was worth every penny. Its dropped many, many birds and other animals over the years and is probably my 2nd most shot gun now.

For $700 you're more so limited to pump shotguns. The 3 pumps Id look at (and in this order) would be:
1.Benelli Super Nova - yes, its a RH with a RH safety, but if you loom online it'll tell you how to reverse the safety into a LH one. Or it can be sent back to Stoeger Canada to have this done for a fee. I w as quoted $94 for them to do it, but it could be better than all the head aches that can come from doing it.
2. Browning BPS, these are a bottom eject, nothing comes out towards you, they can come in a 3.5" chamber and use a tang style safety
3. Ithaca model 37. They are still making them to this day and like the BPS, they bottom eject, but they do use a cross bolt safety, like the benelli though, the safety can be reversed. The Ithaca is also only a 3" gun.

All I listed above can be had new for close to $700 depending on sales and can absolutelt be found used for that price. Id also say a 26" barrel is about perfect. Personally a 28" barrel swinga better for me in a goose blind and hunting coyote, but the 26" is nicer when walking the bush looking for grouse or in the grass hunting rosters. 26 inch is best of both worlds imo.

I absolutely would not buy a RH semi auto, youre just asking for issues and burned eye lashes. Used LH autos I have seen come up as little as $1,000 but normally closer to $1,500.

Yeah if budget was not a consideration the SBE would 100% be my first choice. Right now I just can justify that much on it though. I'll definitely try handling a Nova and a BPS.

Browning BPS would be my choice. Bottom eject and a top tang safety. You can get a cantilever slug bbl for it. Mossberg, Ive read horror stories about their customer service. The gun is gone for months.

Mossbergs customer service is excellent, even being here in Canada. You want to hear horror stories, you’ll want to attempt to deal with Browning Canada. Its quite shameful

Personally, I shot the Nanaimo Super Nova for years before getting into an auto. I got the supsr nova over the stamdard nova because of the recoil reduction stock. After a long day of goose hunting, you'll appreciate the recoil reduction!
