Good evening all I just purchased a Mossberg 4x4 in 7mm-08. I have a very noob question, does this gun accept 7mm Rem mag? Please keep smart ass remarks to yourself :)

Those be two different cartridges.
So no.

When all else fails, match the ammo description to that stamped on the shooter's bawrill.

When in doubt...………………….don't.

Thanks kamlooky for the swift response!
To be curious I am also looking for a budget friendly scope for this rifle, I'm looking to spend under $200. Truth be told, I'm unsure what to spend? Definitely not more than $400, what's your thoughts?

What will I be doing with this gun?
I plan on doing the majority of my hunting/learning on this rifle, I bought it at a really reasonable price and am no stranger to higher caliber rifles. It's slightly less expensive to shoot than my 71/84 Mauser.

RANT RANT
I came here to this forum on recommendation from my course instructor last fall, for the most part I've received some great advice and information.
I'm always learning and willing to learn, I do not have thin skin. That being said, it is a shame that there has to be at least one nasty/smartass/sarcastic comment on my posts. I make it well known that I am new, I am not hiding anything. My apologies that I don't live on my laptop and have thousands of posts, but I believe that most of us are adults so please show me the respect that I always try to show others. I'm sure some of you made uninformed posts or asked silly questions when you started here.

Aww Kberg, it's called initiayeshun.
Some like to ………………………………………………:nest:
I do it awftin 'nuff.

Apply for the EE access (equipment exchange) and find a good used
Leupold scope.
They do show up.
A Var X II 3x9-40 or some such variant will suffice.
Every now and again a sleeper will come through.
That would be a Weaver Classic.
Sometimes they are priced well below what they are worth.

I try and grab one spare to put up on the shelf besides the few
lonely Leupolds.

Welcome aboard.

Ahh I know it's just some friendly jesting haha, just turns the wheels the little bit sometimes.
Thanks for the info, let the research begin!

Loopy won't steer you wrong. Find a used vari-x 2 or vx 2 and never look back. If you're patient you'll find what you're looking for.

Expect some regular chiding here, like you were out hunting with a bunch of the guys. If it gets extreme, you can use the report post button. (Triangle lower left) But what you see here right now, is very mild.

Where is the "RANT RANT???"

Are you sure about not having "thin skin?"

Don't bother with a Leupold on your Mossberg 4X4, that rifle was destined for a Bushnell Banner Dusk & Dawn... a 3-9x40mm will serve you best... leave it on 3X until you need more and then adjust up.

I see that youre in chatham. If youd like to look thru a couple bushnells i have a couple rifles with elites and legend ultra hd glass on a couple rifles. Used you can get them likely under $200. Right now most places have sales on older stock elites and ultra hd scopes that come close to your budget before tax

As for your original question those 7mm cartridges are not interchangable. The barrel and ammo should always match perfectly. There are many different 7mm cartridges and some look very similar but wont chamber

7-08 is a 308 necked down a 7mm reg mag is a belted magnum case

LOL .......... Don't forget the see-thru mounts as well. :)

It looks like Bushnell is having a sale/rebate program right now. Might want to look at those. Or a used Leupold. Stay away from really cheap scopes.

Don't take this as a smart ass question, but when you took your PAL course, did the material not cover how to choose the appropriate ammunition for your firearm? I took the course many years ago, but it did cover cartridge designations, and how to identify them. Just wondering if the course has changed, or if the instructor simply did not teach that material.

Ive seen a guy try to ram 7 rem mag ammo into a 7x57 mauser. Turned out he just walked in to a gun store and asked for 7mm ammo.
Its always best to ask if unsure
