Cannon fuse source?

Source for Canon fuse

I finally found the name of the supplier I got mine from. "Mystical Distributing Co., Ltd., 6 Foster Stearns, Belleville, On." Toll free number is 1-800-856-7556 and web site is <www.mysticaldistributing.com> Dave

This is a great cannon fuse, plus, its Canadian made.

Will they sell that to the public okay in Canada?

Although it's not prohibited at all in the UK, in the end I got a proper explosives licence because that was the only way suppliers would relax about selling it to someone not in the fireworks industry.

DO we need a firearms license to buy Visco fuse in Canada ? Or we need a "pyrotechnic" license ?

i think there's some confusion here do impart to province's setting there own firework's standard's... a small example is that in alberta to purchase firework's you need some type of permit, even roman candle's and screemer's!!!

in BC joe blow walk's in off the street and lay's down cash then cart's off as much stuff that go's bang as he can carry....

much like gun control firework's and explosives are a slippery slope in the political arena...

i have found it quite diffacult to procure the old style blasting cap's recently due to more people switching to air/shock for OHS reason's but thats a whole other story (best told while holding a beercan with a spoon full of gas in it and a good 15 secon's of fuse).... never the less the world has built a better mouse trap and people are starting to use it so the old style will be harder to find.

worst case you just switch to model rocket engine igniter's and you can run as much power wire as needed to reach a safe distance as they are cheap, simple, safe AND very easy to come by.

Class 7.2.1 or consumer/family fireworks such as those purchased at WalMart and the corner store are not what this licence is for. This course is for high hazard, class 7.2.2 display fireworks like you would see on Canada Day up on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Natural Resources Canada and their Explosives Regulatory Division sets the rules for these products for all of Canada.

99% of what i am about to say just apply's to the province of alberta

visco fuse is not a high explosive device it's a regulated item much like beer and ciggy's.... and provinces can further limit the sale of anything they want to if they get creative with the paper's.... by rite's even sparklers for birthday cake's need a permit but the law is pretty lax on enforcement (look for the firework's class info on the back of the package thus making it a regulated item).

http://www.gov.mdrockyview.ab.ca/Uploaded/AFC Section 5.8.pdf

no firework's permit in alberta then no firework's, no fuse, no bang bang.... they have the rite to not sell it because it could be used to make a IPD/IED and thus break the law resulting in the seller of said component being held liable for damages.... "but it's for my cannon" does not cover your store's ass if someone try's to make a roman candle out of a 5gal bucket full of amphol and alumOx....

of course some places do sell it such as wholesale sports in calgary who stock's it in the black powder section rite next to all the lil TC muzzle stuffer goodies.... hint hint wink wink nudge nudge....

Iteresting that only two years ago I bought some at Mystic for a friend and didn't need any permit to buy it! Got a very large roll for very little money. I did keep some for myself as it comes in handy. Permits and licences...good old Canada eh? Everyone scared of their shadow.

Quills

I'm coming late into this discussion ......

Why bother with fuses? Make "quills" out of drinking straws.

- cut the straw to length and put a sharp angle on one end
- splay the other end with at least four 'wings'
- sandwich these between two cardboard discs and glue with white glue
- when dry, pass a pipe cleaner coated with glue thru' the straw and coat the top of the disc as well
- sprinkle a coating of FFFg on the top disc and shake some into the straw

When you touch the surface of the disc anywhere with your portfire or match, ignition is instantaneous as the flame travels down the tube.

Drill a bunch of holes in a wooden block for storage and keep them in an ammo can. Be sure to prick your cartridge before insertion.

get a piece of bumf http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/bumf (should not be too hard to get here in Kanada) 8-1/2X11, coat it with waterproof wood glue(that's what I used), then have ready a piece of steel or maybe brass would be better rod about 16 or so inches long, it might also be better to have someone make a rod like that with a slight, slight taper on it, I used 1/4 inch dia. rod; wipe petroleum jelly * right amount requires experimentation, on the rod about 11 inches long, (some other lubricant might be better) coat only one side of the bumf with your glue, wrap it around the rod until it's in the form of a tube. wait until the glue sets up enough to allow you to remove the rod without the bumf tube 'wrinkling'. let the tube cure for about 5 days until it sounds like a wooden dowel when you hit it against something. Also the tube will work out to around ~3/8-7/16 inch in diameter from what I remember. Pack it with ****STUFF****or whatever you want in there, with a suitable wood dowel and mallet, probably have to make a block to set it in while you do that. Voila. You can cut it to length, gives quite a time delay with an excellent end spit, although it's quite smoky. your mileage may vary. This came from PMJB volume I in case you're wondering. ibtl.
