Official 2019 Wild Turkey Thread

Hahahahaha... love reading these threads,, you guys can be a cantankerous, argumentative group.

So lets all have one big internet group hug before the season opens and wish everybody a safe successful hunt.

I’m genuinely curious as to why you think that mag would be “popular with the COs”? Tubes have plugs, mags have pins...not exactly a new concept.

Because the average person isn't generally going to look at an AR styled long gun and assume "Oh, that must be a 12 gauge with a pinned mag." They're more often than not going to say "I should probably go over and investigate." Semi auto rifles aren't a new concept either, but when you buy a BCL they include a copy of the FRT.

I owe you a beer.

You reminded me that when I switched phones last year, the pdf of the FRT I keep saved on my phone may not have carried over. Went and checked: nope, not there. Found it and saved it again. Thanks for the reminder.

Glad to have been some help, just trying to keep fellow hunters out of the crosshairs.

I run decoys and they worked great when i got my first turkey. Jake ran straight at them and the tom i got was walking slowly behind him when i nailed him.

Trail cam yesterday before the rain started really coming down. Rain all weekend as well as forecast for the opening day. May wait until first weekend if it is still wet.

Apples and oranges...that gun is going to get a COs attention regardless of the length of the magazine, just like a BCL 102 or Stag 10 will; your implication that the magazine will be any more “popular” with a CO than someone’s plugged 870 tube is nonsense. Anyways this thread has been derailed enough.

Lol.

Makes sense.
The price of some of these big heavy decoys are absurd.
I'd like to find something light, maybe pop-up, that's effective and not too expensive.

I see them on the EE all the time. The two I have were found in the back of my shed after the previous owner left them behind. They would retail for about 30 bucks each. They work fine. Ive seen youtube vids where guys take the cheapest decoys they can find and cover them with the feathers of last years bird. Fall birds might be a bit more discerning and more skeptical of a decoy that looks like a failed arts and crafts project. I suspect the spring birds are a little less choosy. As they say in the navy, any port in a storm...
