Have you ever taken a critter with a tad too much punch?
A fox grabbed a chicken and took off down the trail behind my place. I grabbed my 7 mm RM and went after it. It was sitting 40 yds away waiting for the chicken to die when I took out it's chest. I've since dialed my varmint gun back a bit.

I have shot grouse, gophers, groundhogs, coyotes, black bear, moose, elk and deer with my 338 Win Mag.

I did not know there were limits on what could be called a varmint gun other than it was whatever you were carrying at the time.

Regardless of what I am hunting whenever I see a coyote it suddenly becomes a coyote hunt!

A coyote sitting there looking at the hole in the barrel ended up with his teeth on the backside of his head.

I shot a rabbit once a point blank, it surprised me and i instinctively shot from the hips. I literally rolled the back half of the fur over the front half. My friend found the heart hanging on a bush.

Then there was the time i tried to do a headshot on a rabbit with a 30-30 at 20 feet, no one told the rabbit it should stay still. I learned that day that half a rabbit cant run.

I've shot rabbits and a couple of grouse with a 308 in the past. A head shot on the grouse usually pulls out the guts at the same time.
