If there was a ban on the ar15 and variants is buying a lower enough, will we be able to acquire parts to complete our builds post ban. As far as I'm aware the lower receiver is the firearm eveything else would remain unrestricted. Someone please correct me if I'm incorrect.

Legally speaking you're correct. Supply and demand will determine what's available post ban and how much it will cost. I'm half tempted to build one now myself, having just acquired the lower receiver.

And also would they re classify your “stripped receiver” to a fully functional rifle once you finish the build post ban? A lot of questions and rumours. No one really knows until the golden child makes his announcement.

You should buy a complete rifle , or at least the parts to build,
And have it registered as a complete rifle.

If the AR is prohibited, importation of parts could be problematic. Price of available parts in the country could go through the roof. Premium prices for NEA bits. Completion of a grandfathered lower could be very expensive. You could wind up with an expensive mixmaster of an AR locked in a safe, instead of a much cheaper lower.

Only advantage to buying a stripped lower as opposed to a complete rifle is that you won't lose as much if there is confiscation rather than grandfathering.

Sure you can probably build one afterwards. For a while anyway, People will still have extra bits and pieces to sell but if there are X number of lowers in Canada when/if they go Prohib I don't know how many businesses will keep bringing in parts kits? Maybe we will be able to get them out of the US ? But funny things may happen at the point you try to register it as a complete rifle. Maybe not but hey it is the Liberals and the RCMP firearms Lab/program are throwing our faith in so who really knows . In two weeks the Liberals could be laughing their asses off that 2/3rds of the Conservative supporters just blew any extra donation money panic buying Ar's. In 4 months they could be running on a complete firearms ban after stirring up the media and pointing to the mass buying frenzy as justification to strip the evil white, middle age, middle upper income men of Canada of their beloved firearms. In 12 months the Conservatives could be in power and all is right with the world or maybe they just sit on Bill c 71 for another 3 years with a promise to scrap it like the LGR ... No one knows and no one can predict the games politicians play in Ottawa .

The only end goal of prohobiting and grandfathering is confiscation. Full stop.

Grandfathering a complete rifle isn't going to put you in any better spot than just a lower. It's a safe queen either way.

I'd say lower only.

Being grandfathered is not a good thing.

Think about it.
The AR-15 is already restricted to range use only, what point is there in making it prohibited and then letting you keep using it at the range?
Even if they grant you an ATT it will only be for a short time till we settle down then they'll just stop issuing ATT's and you've got a safe queen.

Grandfathering is just an easy way for them to ban them without paying you for your property. You get to look at it and dream while they spend zero dollars on paying you and don't have to spend countless manhours confiscating and destroying.

There is no silver lining in this legislation. If it goes through the days of firing an AR-15 legally in Canada are coming to an end.
I wouldn't spend another dime on building AR's until after the next election.
Keep your lowers and see what happens before sinking more money into what is going to become a paperweight.

Find someone who has a prohib license and owns an AK or any other rifle that went prohib last time and ask them just how great it is to own something they can never shoot again and that there is a very tiny market for which has dropped the value of their rifle to nearly nothing.

Why does anyone think it's going to be any different this time?

I don’t think they give a rats azz if you take it to the range.
What Granfathering will do is , make it impossible to legally buy any more AR15s in Canada.

So , you see , they did something to stop the mass shootings that’s got Canada in its grip..

Yes, we all know this is politically motivated. We all know this effeminate drama teacher is stealing from us to make himself look more attractive to his bleeding heart, soccer mom, anti-american voting base. But don't let that fool you, they will follow party philosophy which is to play the long game. They will prohibit and grandfather to eliminate immediate outcry and PR issues with immediate confiscation. They also remove the ability of future generations to buy them and therefore change the country's values. They are happy to harass you until you die then confiscate them from your family the day after.

Can always get the parts from IRG, a question though, as long as I buy a barrel, I can complete registration as I know the barrel length and caliber it will be,,, right?
