WHY isn't an SKS "Restricted"

I own an SKS-D and am puzzled as to "WHY" they are not restriced!

I have read on the CFC site that "Type 56" firearms are "restricted".

The SKS is supposed to be a Type 56 and is the predecessor to the AK-47, therefore why didn't the Lieberals classify it as restricted or even prohibited for that matter?

Mind you, I do not wish it to be restricted, but am curious as to the "why". The Liberals prohibited 4" barrels, .25 & .32 calibre among just some of their stupidities.

Did the lowly SKS pass under their radar?
 
It probably went along the lines of the average AK-47 looks "scarier" then the average SKS.....but really don't look for logic in why some guns are prohibited and some are unrestricted or restricted.
 
It's a typical situation where folks who know nothing about a topic make up rules to govern it, to make another set of folks who know nothing about the topic happy, while the Subject Matter Experts are never consulted.

They are arbitrary rules setup by politicians and legislators driven by fear. We all know what happens when you are scared.

Poor decisions that make no sense.

Don't try and wrap logic around illogical rules, you'll get the "Anti-headache", which I am convinced is the ONLY valid reason for all these stupid rules.
 
Two ChineseType 56s. One is the AK type, the other the SKS. SKS type rifles were not prohibited by name, nor as an AK variant because they are not a variant.
 
A true gun nut asks why are the others prohibited and not why more should be prohibited .
But to answer your question the SKS was designed and built as a semi auto only firearm . To ban it they would've had to include all semi's to get it , same reason why the mini 14 never got banned . It was easy then to scare the public with an " evil " black gun but getting the public behind taking dad's goose gun and hunting rifle plus little johnies plinker 22 wouldn't wash as well .
They prefer death by a thousand cuts .

I heard a rumor that the SKS was not restricted along with the mini-14 because it was used for hunting by Canada's native population. As I said ... only a rumor.
 
They seem to have targeted for restriction or prohibition, most or all the rifles that had full auto variants, thus the restricting or prohibiting of the FN/FAL, AR, Thompson variants, AK, including those specimens that were only semi auto.

But I know "why" the other guns are prohibited, cause the Liberals are a$$wipes. It is true that you can't use "logic" when addressing issues involving Liberal politicians.

The Type 56 listed on the prohib list is under the AK-47 variant heading. That's the Chinese Type 56 Assault Rifle AK clone that is prohibited by name.

The Type 56 Carbine (SKS) is not covered since it's not an AK-47 variant.
 
I don't believe the AK-47 owes all that much to the SKS. I'm not terribly familiar with either, but I've always been under the impression that the AK design combines elements of the M1 Garand and the German StG44.
 
The SKS and AK are competitors. The first SKS carbines were tested in battle in 1945. Kalashnikov started obsessing over the AK after being wounded in 1941, he took until 1947 to get the bugs out. They were developed in parallel. Where Simonov was developing a rifle based on pre-existing, soon to be obsolete (for front line military use) designs, Kalashnikov was developing something new.
 
The SKS and the AK have about as much in common as a Reminton 742 has in common with the FN-FAL. they both come in .308, but one is a semi-auto long arm with a small magazine, while the other is based on a COMPLETELY different action design, does full-auto, and takes large capacity mags.
