I am having sum thoughts, about culling down the number of bolt actions, and getting one high end classic stalker, rifle, these have caught my eye, anyone got one or shot one?
What's your thoughts. I see shooters choice Calgary, has a few, and am tempted to go for a look,
I've bought a double rifle and a 1907 6.5x54 MS carbine, in the last two years, and the handling of either rifle is Surperb, My Cooper's and Sako feel like a plank, in comparison,
Looking tat one of these Rigby's, or perhaps Dokata.

I saw and handled one at the SCI show in Reno.

It was nice but I wasn't knocked off my feet.

I think a nice Dakota or something custom would be in the same league all day long.

But worth a look for sure it was a pretty rifle.

You should handle one to see how you like it. They're nice rifles, but for the price I think I might be tempted to hunt down an original.

Yea, I am mulling over what to do, think I may have to take a road trip, and have a look, handle a few high end rifles. like the look of the rigby rifle, and have never seen a Dokata other than photos.
Another option, I could take my M700 300H&H to Ralph Martini, and sure he could make a classic stalker, or buy another double, just weigh up options,
There was a thread on here a while back, fellow had a Ralph Martini, make up a 300 H&H. Think " one to rule them all" might have been the thread, can't find it, but would like to talk to the man.

One could certainly use a 700 for a 300H&H (I did) but if one was going to employ Ralph Martini to make up a custom gun, one would be better off starting with an FN98 or pre64 M70 action to start.

Handles the Rigby at this last February Ottawa dealer show, I was impressed with the handling, and the sights we're terrific. And in reality, building a true Mauser commercial action will come close to the Rigby retail price. I know as I've started down this rabbit hole

Neo has one of the new Rigbys with several times uprated wood, he’s very happy. I also think the price point is pretty fair on the current ones, and less than you’d pay Ralf to build you an equivalent stalking rifle. There are of course a slew of cheaper alternatives in the same chamberings that meet the broad definition of classy stalking rifle, but will fall short in the details. Depends how much the details matter to you and what you can afford. I personally enjoy owning fewer of the better rifles than more of the lesser.

Just a thought, but a trim bolt action rifle would be an excellent compliment to your double rifle... consider chambering it in 7X64 Brenneke, that will do alot and mates nicely with your double 9.3X74R.

I'd trade a whole slew of "custom" 700s for one of those Rigbys.

I've had much the same 'thoughts'. My primary favorite has been/is the Schultz & Larsen. However, with a number of acquisitions from the ;) 'other' end of the scale, I'm questioning that , a little. From the initial accuracy results I've obtained with a couple of Zastavas..........

Only hiccup speaking from experience with nice rifles is you have to be willing to actually use them like any other. Accept you’re going to depreciate it and get what you want from it. There’s something special in that too. Still working up to putting some of mine to real use.

That's true. I'd top it off with a set of Weaver R&B and a 1.5-5 Leupold and enjoy the heck out of it. I have the Super30 Frankenrifle for crummy weather.

All we have is crummy weather much of the season in the northern Pacific rainforest. :d I’ve taken the Royal out, but with judicious and irritating care required, and cherry pick the weather. Would love to “make it” to the point I could work with a bespoke London best rifle and wear it out.

I've handled a couple Rigby Highland Stalkers at Calgary Shooting Centre and they're definitely nice. They have almost everything I'd be looking for in a rifle of that category, but lack a few small details like an ebony foreend. They shoulder nicely and have a really nice heft to them.
