Hey guys,

I'm sure there are a few forums on this but I can't seem to find any. There seem to be a lot of used and new Tavor 21s and X95s coming up of the EE forums recently. I've always had my eye on one of these but have never been able to pull the trigger due to how much these cost.

They've both come down in price now with the average being around 1700-1800 for the 21 and 2200-2400 for the X95. I've done a little research and know about the heavy trigger on the 21 and the small cosmetic upgrades on the X95, but I'm looking for real feedback from my fellow cgn'ers who have shot, owned, cleaned and maintained then.

What do you guys think? Is the X95 with the extra $$ or is the 21 a solid, better rifle? What's your choice and why? Appreciate any feedback you guys are able to provide. Thanks in advance everyone!

The Tavor is a better rifle then the X95 in my opinion. I much prefer the foward charging handle then the centrally located one on the X95. The Tavor is also a few ounces lighter despite the fact the X95 is a smaller rifle. I also prefer the grip area on the TAR21 to the X95. I was able to mought a Fab bipod on the bottom.

Some people say the accuracy is better on a TAR21 then a X95. In my experience it was but just by a hair. I think the accuracy results were subjective though. As long as the accuracy is within 2-4moa it's doing whats its designed to do. As for the trigger. The stock X95 trigger is better then a older generation TAR21 trigger. However they often get replaced with new trigger packs so its a moot point in my opinion.

The X95 does have a better mag release then the TAR21. It also has a better rail set up on the front end.

If you own a TAR21 its not worth upgrading in my opinion to a X95. However if your buying brand new and unfamiliar with the platform, a X95 is probably the better choice. In my experience if I was going to go back and get either or, it would be a TAR21. I would use the extra money saved to buy bullets and accessories and what not.

X95 is so much more compact than tar21. Makes you wonder why the Tar21 is so bulky.

Weight wise, it’s the same when you ditch all the X95 front panels (use ladder rail cover), use a pistol grip and thin buttpad. The compactness alone makes the X95 a more agile shooter.

I own both and still love the Tar21, but I’m keeping it around only because of its much cheaper price.

Wow, very in depth. Thank you very much for this. I honestly was leaning toward the 21 but this is really helpful in the decision.

Thanks for the info. Does the x95 come stock much more compact, or do you need to replace the butt pad, etc. Is it that much more noticeable over the 21? I've heard weights are similar and I have a large frame. Do you think it would be too short? I'm 6'4".

Never shot a x95 but I would get a tavor and put in the giessele super sabra and the trigger bow for the price of a x95 Trigger upgrade even just the trigger bow makes a big difference

Owned both, I would say the X95 actually is a product-improved TAR21, fixing a pile of small quirks of the original.

Beyond allowing for the full quad rail, the X95's relocated charging handle also fixes a minor problem: The original TAR's cocking bar is very long and interfaces with the bolt carrier at an odd angle. Mine would flex and scrape against the gas block, which can make it *very* stiff to charge. The X95 solves that by simply shortening the cocking bar and having it run in line with the bolt carrier's movement.

The TAR21, while having excellent offhand shooting characteristics, is very awkward to shoot off a bench or a sandbag. The X95 with it's flat bottomed fore end and more subdued cutlass handguard makes that noticeably easier, while still being able to use the "6 points of contact" method offhand, if a little less naturally.

They have similar accuracy, ~2.5MOA with M193. The X95 is about the same size but *feels* much less bulky. The length of pull is shorter and in my opinion, more comfortable, particularly with the flat IDF buttplate. I personally think the X95's "AR Style" mag release button is inferior to the TAR's, but it was a necessary change due to the shorter gap between the pistol grip and magwell. The stock X95 trigger is very good, much better than the TAR's and I don't see any justification for replacing it. Being able the pull the barrel and optic rail off the X95 as a single unit is nice.

I upgraded my TAR21 for an X95 as soon as I was able to, through Wolverine supplies and haven't looked back.

X95 is more streamlined (less bulky), is more ergonomically comfortable to those familiar with AR controls, trigger is better than a TAR21, but it's a moot point as I upgraded anyways with the Geisselle. I also changed to the thin butt plate and changed the grip so it didn't have the knuckle guard, personal preference though. The rail and cover system is much nicer in my opinion, if you don't like/need rails they are covered, but if you want them it's easy to get at them.

Prefer and own the TAR21 myself. I actually like the ergonomics better than that of the x95, but that's personal preference I suppose. I use the Tar-podium to shoot prone, which I prefer to a bipod on the front end of either rifle for both ergonomics and perhaps accuracy to some degree, as the barrel is not free floated.

With the Geissele super sabra trigger pack it shoots quite well, and slightly more accurate in my experience than what x95 owners are reporting.

Also worth mentioning, the aftermarket accessory support is somewhat better with the TAR21, at least when I looked and bought several upgrades for mine last year. Notable upgrades include the Gearhead works gas cover, folding charging handle, and mlok forerail.

I would be happy with either one.
TAR21 has less barrel flex and seems to give better groups, more bulk, worse factory trigger.
X95 is more compact and easier to handle, great factory trigger, more rail estate, accuracy isnt as consistant to the TAR21.

^I concur with the note on accuracy.

When cool, TAR21 shoots tighter group than X95. It appears to me there are some sort of interference on the barrel of the X95 to cause it to shoot large groups.

When hot, TAR21 gave me less group wandering than the X95

When shooting different ammo with same zero, TAR21 gave me less POI shift than the X95

If I wanted a half-assed DMR I’d pick the TAR21. But if I want to appreciate them as run-n-gun designs I’d pick X95 for its ergo and compactness.

The only thing I like better on the x95 is the mag release.
I think the Tar21 looks cooler too, and seems to more aftermarket accessories like different top rails, bipods, hanguards, etc
