"That cartridge is Boring"

I've never understood that comment.

Is it boring because it's common?

The only thing that would make one particular cartridge boring to me would be if it didn't perform worth a damn, for one reason or another.

30-06 is boring I guess, but torching 62 grains of RL19 and sending 165 grain Accubond out at 2835 fps is kinda fun, IMO! :)

It's like cars. A minivan might be a totally practical choice that'll work perfectly well for almost all transportation tasks you might have for it, it's still a damn *minivan*.

Likewise, a gun is more than just a utilitarian tool.

Would there be any truth in the fact that "boring" is used to give way for the "need" to try out new calibers/ammo etc.and therefore give way perhaps to another new rifle ?
After all, that rifle we currently own is now "boring" cannot do much more experimenting with it ?

Boring to me is when I have developed the perfect bullet, bullet weight , powder charge and OAL. When a cartridge becomes absolutely dependable and consistently places the bullet where it is pointed each and every time then it is boring. Of course I am now into casting my own bullets when jacketed bullets work just fine so who would listen to me.

I find some of them there alphabetical chamberings a bit boring. So many new ones come out I just can't keep track of the alphabetical order. WSSM, MSWS, WSM or was that ? Just get bored hear'n all them new things that can be done with the same old bullet. Shucks give me an old .30/06 and a .375 HH that have both been around for a century and my bordom up and goes away by knowing that what I have is dang well bin proven in the field over and over and over and over. #### that has to be boring eh! Be carefull now not to get to bored and waste a heap of bandwidth on boring topics!;););)

Lots of cartridges are boring, until I get a rifle chambered for one of them.

Generally, for me, boring is any cartridge that I can't hunt with.

Also, wildcats are pretty boring, because unless you've got the money and are into reloading, it's like they basically don't exist anyway.

One thing I always do wonder is if the person calling a cartridge boring has actually owned/shot/hunted with /handloaded the cartridge in question.

I've owned a few 30-06's. Whenever I pick up a perfectly made round of 30-06 ammunition and relaly look at it, I always think "wow what a good cartidge."

Still doesn't make it less boring, though.

I have shot and reloaded a 243 since I started hunting. Boring to me is a 308, over rated, does not shot flat enough, too many people like it, etc, etc, and yes I owned one and sold it fast. Thats the same reason why I never owned a K car. ( JUST STIRING THE POT ).
