Good Target Rifle Around $300?

I'm just getting back into target shooting and would like to get some recommendations for a decent recreational target shooting .22 rifle in the $200 to $300 range. I'm open to either a semi-auto or bolt action. Just want something inexpensive, but that will be reasonably accurate and consitent, to get started. I know there will probably be tons of opinions but hopefully I can narrow it down to a couple possibilities. Thanks.
 
Forget the semi's, stick with a bolt action and at your price point, you are looking for a used rifle, probably Savage... you could try Trade-Ex and look for a single shot bolt gun there.

Hands down Norinco NS 522 if you can find one. They’re not that pretty to look at, but a tack driver right out of the box. Do some sniffing around of some older threads, there’s a guy on here that modded the hell out of one.
 
Savage is a good choice. Marlin xt22 for a bolt action is not bad either and their model 60 is the best selling 22 semi in the world. Ruger 10/22 is a close 2nd in sales and could be found for under $300. But if you like a target rifle in that price range then the CIL single shot are also a good option.
 
I can pick the eye out of a butterfly with the Russian Toz-17 bolt action magazine rifle :)

If you need to you can also use it to dig your car out of a snowbank and go back to shooting.

Thanks for all the suggestions. That's a bunch to look into. I do prefer a bolt action repeater or semi auto to a single shot. It's more for fun target shooting than competitive stuff at this point so accurate is good but it doesn't have to be super match accurate :)
 
Oh, and just to add to the requirements, I do want the option to use both iron sights and a scope at different times. I imagine most have both capabilities but maybe some don't?
 
I used high rings on Savage Mk II with Nikon Prostaff because I wanted to do the same and it allowed to leave the rear sight on my Mk II g so I can remove the scope anytime and go back to irons.

FYI though I have never removed the scope like I thought I would. I might go to iron sights though so I can start practicing with them as I am not that accurate with iron sights on my bigger caliber milsurps yet.
 
Remington 597. They have irons, dovetail receivers for scope and drilled/tapped for a weaver rail. The price is right and the accuracy is usually there. Got a Lilja barrel on mine now and it's more accurate than any factory CZ or Savage bolt action I've owned.

You won't find iron sights on most bull barrels. They *can* be found, but they're more the exception than the rule.
