I have been looking for a day use pack for hunting. Looking for something fairly small I could easily strap my small folding chair on it so I don't have to carry the darn thing. Getting too old to just sit on the ground and struggle to get back up.That and room for a sandwich or 2 a water and maybe a few misc. items. Anyone know of something that would work for this?

thanks

I've been looking at day packs at all the various places for such things and finding nothing that suits my requirements.
The day pack I have now is still functional and quiet and in superb condition other than a small pocket zipper needs replacing. It is a Camelback Stryker mossy oak but I think they stopped making them. I've had mine since before I joined CGN..... long time now. If I replace that zipper it will probably last till I'm too old to use it.
looking for something that will impress me more than the stryker but everything in the day pack range just seems so "over done" with crap I don't need and useless little compartments ….. and noisy. Anyhow... interested to hear what others are using too.

Check out the day packs at MEC - they have lots of selection. I used an older version of something like this one: ht tps://www.deuter.com/CA/ce/hiking/airlite-22-4420315-black-grey.html

Our group has used everyday common schoolbags for years, Ive been using my current backpack for about ten years now, and it serves the purpose quite well.It has plenty of room for some snacks, a sweatshirt, first aid, and a bottle or two of water.

i have used a badlands stealth lightweight daypack for many years and have always been happy with it for day hunts. no longer available i hear but was replaced with the sprint which is pretty much the same pack. my folding stool strapped to the bottom and my spare layers strapped to the top so it left plenty of room inside for anything else. recommended for the use you are describing.

Are you talking big game hunting or small game? For big game hunting, I just carry my large pack because I have no interest in having to return to the truck if I get something. My day pack is a Coleman Elate 38 from Walmart (originally bought for university). I saw a pack or two that interested me on Mountainwarehouse's website though, if I was in the market for a new pack I"d be looking there first.

OP what sort of features do you like? Is a waist belt a requirement? Do you plan to run a water bladder? Do you care if its camo?

Cabelas has a top-load pack with very little in the way of features that comes on sale for half price frequently, $50 regular. (RedHead top load pack, something like that)

Badlands is the gear!

Cabela's Bow and Rifle pack #1816090001. I had to retire my old pack cuz it finally rotted out after 10 seasons and replaced it with this two seasons ago. I can wear it all day without getting tired. It has lots of room in it,a smaller double pack that disconnects when not needed which can be used by itself and a carry pouch and velcro tie downs to haul a bow or rifle for hiking in to deep woods watches.

I had the Badlands Diablo and my buddy has the Superday. Both are very nice packs but way more than I needed for a day out. I found them both heavy and too bulky for my needs and are more like an over night or weekend bag. Although now discontinued, I went with a Badlands bag that looks identical to the Pursuit that they now offer. It is perfect for me at 1500 total, 1250 main and 5 pockets. It is half the price as well. Carries a H2O pack, couple of thermos, extra gloves etc, safety/first aid gear, lunch of course and has ample room to strap on the folding stool and/or a bow.

My combo of eberlestock warhammer and little brother are great, but neither would qualify as a day pack. For a small day pack holding what you've mentioned I would consider the eberlestock bandit.

Diablo Dos for my early season day hunts and a cheap Alps Outdoorz Dark Timber for cooler weather and shorter day hunts. Early season I could be away from camp for 14 hours so I need to be able to carry a lot of gear, especially water in the hotter temps. Since I'm out all day carrying a good amount of weight, a waist belt is a must for my day packs. If you're just doing short hikes and sitting then any number of the smaller packs suggested would work great. I like the looks of that Savotta from Varusteleka. The PALS webbing would make strapping on your chair easier. Great place to deal with as well.

Another option if you're not looking to spend much money is to watch for a vintage frame pack at garage sales and such. Obviously a bit big for a "day pack" but they are pretty light and easy to strap things to. I've used mine for the exact purpose you described. I have a couple of them, this one being used so much that the pins were worn out and needed to be replaced this spring. I also sewed on some PALS webbing and upgraded it with Alps straps and waist belt but for being 40 or 50 years old it still does the trick! I can't imagine the amounts of miles I've put on this thing with some crazy loads. It has packed out probably 10 elk or so, 2 mule deer, and 3 bear besides all the other use it gets. My son used it on our overnight bear hunt this spring.
