I've long thought the SKS is todays Lee Enfield, in a sense.
Everyone has at least one of 'em, often bought greasy and out of a box containing another 10 just like it.
The ammo is cheap and bulk, sold in surplus.
People are cutting them up and tossing parts of to make them 'lighter' or less fiddly, or putting their own accessories on them. Some are drilling and tapping them for optics.
Given enough time, I imagine that the prices will start to climb as eventually, the soviet supplies WILL dry up. If we don't lose all our guns by then I think they'll start hitting the $500+ range in another decade or so, heck they're allready $300+ for a good one in a lot of stores.
