What to chamber the Oberndorf in?

After a full pressure firing. And I really like that bullet for bear stopping duties Lane, and another less common CEB.

For sure, same thing ballistically they have identical case capacities. Just set this up for pointier & tipped bullets, was struggling with seating depth on the more slippery .375 bullets in the mock up rounds (.375-06 & Scovill / Hawk), so used a 57mm case length improved. Icing on the cake was headspacing it to fireform .30-06 by the Douglas / c-fbmi method to make components simple. Will be loading it with 200-235grs, 235s will be the standard I’m sure.

What is Douglas' method?

.375 Kemano load development continues, 260gr Accubonds are doing 2,545fps over 54.0grs H4895, surprisingly that puts it supersonic at 1,000 yards still. At 425 yards it’s still above the Accubond’s proper expansion cutoff (1800fps). Doesn’t drop below the hydrostatic terminal effect cutoff of 2200fps til 200. RL15 didn’t pan out (2300fps). 250gr TTSX and GMX next, maybe BLC2 as well. Recoil is super moderate and akin to 200gr .30-06.

John Barnsness has written about getting 250 grain bullets to 2650 with Varget in his 9.3x62’s. May be worth a try.

I like it. Basically a north american version of the 375 ruger but cooler than the 376 steyr

For North America I frequently down loaded my H&Hs to 60grs of H4895 with 235s and 270s, with no discernible changes in effect on game. This emulates that recipe just more efficiently, and with modern bullets I don’t feel the need to load 300s in .375s. The BC of something like the ER Raptor/TTSX/GMX/Accubond makes this a remarkably useful cartridge for what I do (guiding and flying in grizzlies, and a bit of personal hunting that can be mountainous). It’s split the difference between my two favourite rounds, the 7x57 and the .375 H&H.

I looked at my powder shelf before heading to work, and took a long gander at the Varget and H4350. Felt like RL15 was going to do it and was way off. Thinking BLC2 as well to get more powder in the case.

Believe he’s saying you don’t always need to be slinging 300grs at 2650, for this continent. While I’ve guided that exact load on the biggest Grizz we took, I’d tend to agree that it wouldn’t have made a lick of difference if it was this 260gr Accubond headed into that bear at 2550. I’m not going to argue my wildcat is an H&H or a Ruger, but I can say I’d use it for the same things, and shoot it from 6 1/2 rifles- which I can’t say of the other two, much as I remain a fan of a .375 Mag.
