Has the SKS become the Canadian shooter's equivalent of the Ford 150?

I got one after I got my pal due to the cost. Low cost gun, cheap ammo. Fun to shoot. I agree that it is the winner for SHTF if you want to bury a crate with some crates of ammo.

I wasn’t aware cheap, outdated, inaccurate and covered in packing grease equated manliness.

See the only problem with your comment is that accuracy is the only reason to hold your nose and buy one. They are not tack drivers by any stretch but with effort, you can make a decent go with them. I'm shipping my brother a refurb tomorrow just because.

They're cheap.
That's the bottom line.

You can convince yourself you have an awsome rifle, but you bought it 'cause it was cheap.

I can gas up my F150 twice for what an sks costs... That's pretty cheap.

I havnt taken the sks out of the safe in over a year (probably time to sell it) but my CZ527 makes it out every trip.

Same here a CZ527 either wood with a 22-7x35 vortex or polymer and irons make it out for most trips....its my deer gun so unlike to keep using em as I find CZ rifles shoot more and more accurately the more hey are used
The 527 is a very consistent easy to use light rifle.....

As of the SKS I finally cleaned up one of the Yugoslavian SKS and now that is one fine shooting SKS off of a bench....the SKS does not have much recoil but the extra weight etc make it for a smooth rifle and is a pleasure to shoot. I love the SKS platform, its near invisible, looks bad ass and there cheap....I have written it here before I 7se the SKS as my base standard of quality when buying firearms.... I generally wont buy a firearm unless it is of equal quality or better than your regular Russian SKS. Quality metal, decent polish, and a nice wood or laminate stock make the SKS a fine rifle....also if you refinish one it can be made gorgeous

I purposely didnt reblue that one because one I didnt feel like it and two it looks nice kind of worn with it's nice stock.

The SKS is an awesome rifle. After the AR15 breaks, the 10/22 springs fail and the Ruger PCC carbine screws fall out the SKS will still work perfectly. Reliable and durable and easily worked with by anyone with very minimal training.... SKS for the win.

The SKS is my go-to rifle for having fun. I've shot thousands of rounds and the gun is in virtually the same condition as when I bought it, except that it is worth more now than what I paid. How can this be a negative thing? I just picked up a 1949 SKS, and a Chinese military one, just need a yugo.

SKS is a triumph of marketing scrap iron. The word "beauty" taken from an earlier post does not belong in the same sentence.
They are a crude, stopgap military rifle that is long past it's "best before" date.
The main attraction is "cheap" with spam cans of cheap ammo.
A SKS makes a Lee Enfield look classy.
End of rant.

A Lee Enfield is a classic, classy and beautiful gun that is a joy to shoot even after 50 or a 100 years. The Enfield costs me over a dollar a shot but the SKS costs about 25 cents a shot. Both are well worth the price.

If it was all about money then I would be using my Cooey single shot a lot more.

Ya elitist gonna elite.

Classic example of a CGN / PAL pissing contest. "Well I took the course and I have my license and $500 to spare. So I buy an SKS with ammo."

Wrong Francis! You should pay way more for that rifle unissued or buy a "whatever" to prove you have a real stake in this game.

Don't listen to that nonsense. The SKS was the second firearm I bought. My first was a worn 870.
