Winter project completed...sure have a new found respect for the guys that do this regularly. Still a couple spots that could use some added attention but gotta get it ready for hunting....Started as a Calico chunk of AA Fancy walnut...a bit of African blackwood and a whole lot of work=

Boomer, you hit the nail on the head with new found appreciation. I found I was continually fighting my wanting to speed things up.

Fishslinger, I used varathane no. 66 natural oil finish but didnt realize the African blackwood has natural oils in it that did not allow a finish to cure so I did a shellac over that to seal it and then everything was fine. The varathane was easy to work with but it's so very thin it takes forever to have a level finish. I've used tru oil in the past and will likely use the varathane as a sealer and then try oil

357, it's not anything fancy, just a stock Sako A7 in 300wsm, with steel bases and warne rings, and a vortex viper scope. Not a "classic" rifle necessarily worthy of nice lumber but the inletting is relatively simple compared to my other rifles so...I dont have a scale but weight wise it's very similar to a Model 70 Fwt that I have...balance feels just right for me

Nice work she looks great, have had a lot of inquiries by outfitting clients who hold stocks I’ve made if I’d do one for them and how much it would cost. I shy away from the answer as to properly pay yourself for the time and stock blank you’d be charging what Ralf Martini would, $3500-6000, and I’m not even a shadow of Ralf’s talent. So my answer is usually afraid I don’t have the time. Sure nice turning your imagination into reality though, isn’t it?

357, you got that right, gives you something to oogle during those slow hunting times

Ardent, thank you...I've spent lots of time staring at the stocks you've put up on here. You're in a class of very few with the stuff you've done. The reality on this one changed a couple times while working on it hahaha with a lot of nervous moments

Get a little shot of adrenaline cutting into an expensive piece of walnut you’ve seasoned for ten years, better than coffee. You’ll take a break and soon as hunting is over and the weather turns, be shopping more stock blanks I know the disease too well. :d
