Budget.22lr options in a bolt action repeater?

Savage actually makes a decent bolt action rifle and the accutrigger is a nice feature for kids. Our store doesn't currently have any but Cabelas has a couple nice choices under $300.

Them being out of business for about 50 yrs creates a huge obstacle to buying a new cooey lol.

Readily available on the used market though.

I bought mine for $80 used at the local gun store. Cooey 39 -- worked amazing till I messed it up. Great for young shooters and cheap.

Dude with a $300 Savage had been winning and kicking the crap out of everyone at Outlaw Rimfire Precision Series in my local area this year.

Hes even besting the open class guys with Vudoo and custom rifles etc...

That about sums it up.

I haven't shot one yet, but I like the look of the new Savage B series. Unless it's a hardwood stock model (not laminate)...the plastic stocks on the Mark II and 93 series really is about the worst ever made. Serviceable...but not good. lol The B series improved that allot, the metal even looks nicer. Might be a sneeze over that budget, but to me...it would appear to be a better gun.

I would say a Cooey 39.. They're stupid accurate, and I would buy one over a rascal, or a crickett.

I think if the kid is small/young enough...the Rascal is a better fit. Doesn't take a ton of effort to ####/load...peeps are good, and you have the ability to add a scope. When my kids were small enough that the Rascal fit, they didn't like my 39...as it wasn't easy to #### the trigger. I like the 39s myself, but the Rascal was the winner in our house.

The B series is what the guy has been beating open class with and getting 1st overall with I mentioned in my last post. At least 2 or 3 wins I know of. Maybe they all dont shoot like that I dont know. But I bet it hurts to have a Vudoo and get beat by it haha...

I just bought a Savage rascal for my son to start shooting with. Price was around $230. My reason for choosing the Rascal was the 11” length of pull and the bolt action single shot. Great value for under $300. I also bought a Savage Rascal Target XP for $450ish. The target XP really impressed me. Same length of pull as the basic rascal but adds a heavy barrel, better stock, knock off harris style bipod, and a 4x scope mounted on a rail. My son ( 8yrs old ) loves this set up. He shooting it incrediy well at 50 and 100 yard targets. The only issues I have with the rifle are it doesn’t always fully eject spent casiings as they occasionally hit the rail on the way out and fall back in and the stock needs a higher cheek rest ( fixed with $2 worth of foam and tape or vet wrap )

I’ve got a B22 and the stock was very flimsy. I cut 2 channels into the forend and epoxy bedded a couple of carbon arrows into it. It’s far from perfect but much better than factory.
