Well that was interesting...

Was at the gun range shooting some very nice groups with my BCL-102 (1st gen) when on my last magazine I pulled the trigger and the rifle fired a 3-round burst in full auto!

I immediately unloaded the last two rounds and opened the gun up to find that the buffer retainer had sheared off. There were marks all over the buffer which tells me that the buffer was slamming up against the buffer retainer every time I fired, hence it shearing.

Would this cause the gun to go FA? I have another retainer, but I’m afraid to use the rifle until I know what caused that. Ammunition used was Barnaul 150gr FMJ - actually shoots really well in this rifle.

BTW-the rifle was surprisingly controllable when it happened lol.

I had zero problems with the rifle prior to this, hoping this is covered under warranty?

No chance the buffer could cause the gun to go full auto. However, the sheared part may have gotten caught up somewhere and caused it. Or a damaged firing pin.

I had an SKS do this go full auto or burst, very random and unpredictable, fun sometimes if it happened on the first shot but a complete waste of bullets. Sold it to a buddy of mine he enjoyed the unpredictability more then I did, actually made money on that one because of that fact. He used it for a while until it scared him, then it got trashed.

The buffer retainer pin has absolutely nothing to do with the functionality of the firearm. It's only purpose is to keep the buffer and spring from popping out when you take the upper receiver off the lower. You can run the firearm without even having a buffer retainer pin installed and there will be no issues with function.

As Blastattack pointed out your issue is most likely caused by the sheared off piece of the pin getting caught up somewhere. Most likely somewhere in the trigger group.

Still. Don't give the anti's any more reason to ban these type of guns. Go to a gun store or talk to a more experienced friend or something. They have already banned Sp01 non compliant receivers don't give them ant more excuses.

Nothing wrong with asking a troubleshooting question. Calling the OP a retard for doing so is completely unnecessary.

Perhaps asking him for a thread title change would be appropriate.

Well, perhaps, but I bet he knows the correct "They're" to use.

You problem is most likely with the dis-connector engagement or sear engagement.

You’re 100% right:
1) Rename thread
2) Clean-up thread

Discussing FA in semi-automatic rifles is really asking for trouble!

For the record, I tried to put quotation marks around “full auto” but it wouldn’t let me.

The reason I’m posting is because I’ve seen a previous thread about a catastrophic failure, and thought this might be a related problem. The remaining cartridges in the magazine had some powder burn on them; thinking that the steel casing of the cartridge prevented the gun from going kaboom?

The buffer seems almost too small in diameter for the tube. When I got the rifle, there was an offset buffer retaining pin but it wasn’t capturing the buffer when the gun was opened so I replaced it with a new non-offset retainer. It seemed to work fine until it broke the other day.

My concern is, is the gun safe to shoot with the new pin in place? Why are there marks on the buffer? Granted, the multiple discharge more than likely happened when the broken piece got into the trigger area.

Years ago, I was shooting a Colt AR-15 Sporter HB, and it suddenly just stopped shooting; you couldn’t pull the trigger at all. The culprit ended up being a primer that had come out of a bad reload and lodged under the trigger.

I was just wondering if anyone else had a similar multiple-discharge incident with their AR or similar platform, and what to possibly do about it.
