Im pissed!! I decided to spend the $$ on a leupold because all i read is that vortex scopes break all the time.
I just bought a new rifle and decided to fork out the cash for a vx6hd 3-18x50. I went to the range today and sighted it in and everything went well until i got home and took a look through the scope there is some peice of something hovering around the crosshairs at first i thought it was just something on the lens but nope its inside the scope. So 20 rounds and a trip in a hard gun case is what it took to break this scope. What are the chances i will get this scope fixed by hunting season? I should have bought the dam vortex!!!
 
Did you pick the scope up in person at the store? If so, you could give them a call and see about just exchanging it as it is new.

Another option is to send the scope into Korth (Leupold service center) in Alberta and have them check it out. Sounds like just a piece of lint or something in there. I have sent scopes to Korth and the turn around was within a week. I'm sure they can take care of you if your dealer can't.

That sucks but.....it happens. Turn around time with Korth is fairly fast.
 
The scope isn’t necessarily broken, if it still holds zero. Sounds like some contaminate got inside during manufacturing and wasn’t seen during QC. Then shooting knocked it loose. Rare rare defect from Leupold. They will set it straight.
 
Korth is awesome. I sent them a 50 plus year old Leupold that had many miles on it that I couldn't move the vertical cross-hair anymore and they told me they couldn't fix it... instead they sent me a brand new scope, after 50 plus years of use and abuse!

Send the scope there and they will fix it!
 
I am with on this ... optics are expensive and when you shell out for a premium product you expect a premium product. Sure these things happen but I see very little excuse for a defect right out of the box. Lets hope the retailer can make it right. Best of luck.
 
Well OP you got some mud on yer face.
Not much one can do except get it fixed.
Korth will look after you or maybe the shop you purchased it from if it was
bought new.

If bought from the Powderkeg, hopefully Mark will send it in for you.
But lose the chip you display here.

I'd also suggest setting the rifle up in a gun vice/rest/clamp.
Put your bore sight in the barrel and make note as to where your scope is
looking thru the bore sight checkering.
It will be easier to get it back on target when going thru the motions again.

Chit happens, it's how you deal with it that will get you the proper results
in a timely fashion.
 
I always wince a little when I read people putting down companies like vortex by saying such and such company doesn't have a lifetime warranty because they don't need one.

People buy Leupolds for their strong erector design, and most of all lifetime warranty. Suck-in you lip and send it to Korth. Problem solved.
 
Well if it makes you feel better sending in your Leupold will be a one time thing. Vortex would be worse in my experience.

My turn around time was April until the end of October. From what i saw, they did nothing. I have 38 long guns, probably over thirty with optics. Two have leupolds, everything else has changed over. The 375 rum wears one, and a low variable on the guide gun.

One of the pluses for them, has been matched by everyone, the warranty. When even the warranty is broken; there are cheaper/better options.

Not to hi-jack the thread, but I am curious as to what brand you would consider "cheaper/better options" then let`s say a VX-3 and what you have changed over to?

Did you take the scope back to the store you bought it from ?
Did you buy with a CC ?
Did you check your consumer offered protection provided with your CC (if offered)
Send the Scope to Korth and I would put money on the scope being returned in less than 2 weeks.
As for hunting season that depends if your going North on an LEH fly-in.
Vortex, you would still be hard pressed to get it returned in two weeks.
Ever deal with an automotive warranty issue.... good luck in getting it repaired if the item broken is a major component like a dropped valve of blown head gaskets ie Ford 6L Power Stroke.

Did you buy the scope from a store? Your original post is not clear.

With all the counterfeit scopes floating around, I would check the serial number with Leupold...

If it's the Real McCoy, Leupold will make it right.

The scope and rifle where both bought at the same store.
And i do have a back up rifle that i can run but affter dropping over 5k i was lookig forward to running this rifle/scope.
I was just venting and most of you are right i will suck it up send the scope in and if i get it back in time great if not oh well.
 
Might still be worth calling Leupold with the serial number, I'd be curious at this point...
