Is the type 81 worth it

I've owned many Vz 58 and I have had my first Type 81 for a few months now.

Vz 58 is better because

- More accurate
- Lighter
- Smaller
- More aftermarket accessories
- Much faster and easier to field strip

Type 81 is better because

-Looks better
-Cheaper
-Chromelined barrel is standard

About the price of a Type 81, I don't think $1000 is a bad deal for these guns. Imagine 10 years ago I purchased my first CZ 858 for $649.99. Now think, a Ruger Mini 14 at that time was $749.99. I know because I bought a Mini 14 shortly after that 858. Well today a Mini 14 is $1199.99. So I could only imagine if the 858 was still being made, they would be $1000 now. That would make the type 81 around the $600 if it was available at 10 years ago.

Which one would I take? Type 81. Just to me it looks significantly better. They might be rough, but they're well made and reliable. A bit clumsy to field strip though. The long barrel of the Vz 58 just looks off and I could never get over it. However, the Vz 58 is a much better rifle especially the chromelined CSA versions.

I've seen a lot more customization and tricks being done in them lately, also I guess it depends on how accurate you want expect it to be, From what I've read they seem to be a 3~5MOA rifle
Buts its 1k for a NR x39 "AK" ISH look kinda alike not really. I'm ordering one

The best reason to own a T-81 is because you want a AK47 style rifle that feels like a real commie gun. And in that respect, it delivers.

It's a $500 gun that we are happy to pay $1000 for because it looks cool and is fun to shoot. You can get a budget AR15 for $700 and it will be a better rifle all around, but if you got that communist itch to scratch, the T-81 is good for that.

Personally,I find the t-81 a bit more fun to shoot than an SKS. And I've had lots of SKS rifles.:)

Buy a CSA VZ 58 if u want a better gun

Buy a Type 81 if all u really want is something that resembles an AK.

If you want a stamped metal blaster that has that authentic sound of oppression when you run the bolt, it's your boy.

It ended up not doing it for me for a couple reasons.

Just accept that you're buying an approximation of a cultural icon, rather than a fine rifle, and you won't be disappointed

so many guns in cant-ada are like this, want an mp5? gsg-16 or famae SAF, want an uzi? here's your brs-99, want an ak? pick an sks, 858 or type 81, want an fal or g3? welcome to sg542 country

and so on

all good guns in their own ways but i learned a long time ago there is no substitute for the real deal so i too accepted i was buying an approximation that would never be as cool as the real thing

the motto of the Canadian gun owner should be "its the closest thing we can have to a _______"

Explain your definition of “better”?

Aesthetics, ergonomics, performance, reliability...

I found the T81 to be more accurate than my old AK but the AK field strips easier.
Adjustable gas is a great option that I have never used past 1 setting. Ak is simpler but can’t bring the AK to the range so there’s that

Comparing to the VZ, T81 has a more crisp break, with a tactile reset, and short travel.

Hated the VZ trigger with the reset being the worst part about it. Not to mention the lonnnnng take up.
