280 Remington

Very nice, well balanced round that does not beat you up, yet is very effective
in the field. Bullet choices are almost unlimited if you reload.

The brass can sometimes be harder to locate, but can be made from 30-06 in a
pinch. Headspace dimensions are different than the '06 or the 270, so one must
make a "false shoulder" to use them. If you are looking at a nice one on a decent
platform, and properly priced, go for it! Dave.

Hey Dave ..... I have about 300pcs of brass here for mine including a bunch of factory ammo I'm going to use up before the loading starts.

Shot this today setting up the scope.

I have good luck with Reloader 17 and light hunting bullets, 140 ttsx and 120 Sierra. At the range... never killed with it. :(

Have a few Rugers, a model 70 Wincam but the Kimber BGR is my favourite 280 Rem.

That Kimber is sweet!

Mine is a 700 BDL with a 23" JC bbl in a Brown Precision stock. Nothing special, working gun.

I run the Euro version...7x64, I form my brass out of 1F 280rem I got from Higginson...they usually always have brass.

Very clean. Very nice!
I like those Brown stocks. The one I have has very good cheek weld as the comb seems to rise as you go back towards the heel.

Handloader's dream. More case capacity than an '06, better bullet sellection than .270

It baffles me why more shooters don't shoot .280 Rem.

Currently mine is a pre 64 model 70 with 1:9 stainless Jury barrel.

Just loves 160gr Accubonds, and I single load 175gr Berger Elite Hunters when I really want to reach out and touch something.

I love my Kimber Mountain ascent in 280 AI it loves 4831 shortcut and Barnes XLR 145 grains, a very polite calibre to shoot in an ultralight rifle. I am also surprised the 280 is not more popular, but I think that is due largely to the seven mm Remington Magnum

I have two of those Browns. The other I think is of different vintage as the cheek pc is a different shape.

Mine is a custom Model 70 (brown one).
Very nice LH custom. As versatile as a 30-06, buy way more cool

i have a 280 cooper. shoots anything i try, especially 120 barnes and 140 ab. don't use that much as i also have a 708ai,7 mag and a 7rum. in reality i could keep the 280 and sell the rest.

Have a Browning a-bolt with boss, nice gun to shoot, lot milder than 30-06 or 7mm rem. mag. both of which I have owned. Favorite load is 150 gr. swift scirocco on top of 56.5 gr of imr 4831. Have shot several moose with the .280 and drt or only went short distance

I have a stainless Ruger MKII, began life in a boat paddle stock, resides in a liteweight Rhein Hart Fajen laminate. Shoots very well with Hornady 139gr , over max book loads of either imr 4831 or 4350 and h4831 or h4350
My favorite hunting rifle

Have owned several 280's over the years; a Browning A-Bolt, and 3 different Remington 700 Mtn rifles. The A Bolt was very accurate.
My current 280 is semi-custom Remington 700 LH.
Took a Remington 700 XCR LH in 30-06 and a RH Remington 700 CDL SF Ltd and did a barrel swap. Sold the RH CDL 30-06 and kept the LH XCR with the Stainless Fluted 280 Rem barrel and CDL SF Ltd bottom metal. That XCR action is one of the smoothest Remington I have ever seen or owned, out of the box. It shoots the older Federal Premium 140 gr AccuBond ammo into 0.4" groups at 100 yards. I use the XCR stock for tough or bad weather hunts, and a LH LSS stock for good weather. Both stocks have been glass and pillar bedded so that changing stocks does not change point of impact, as it did prior to bedding (by 4").

I believe the 270 had a huge headstart on the 280 and had a huge champion in Jack O'Connor. And the fact that the factory ammo was underloaded from the start.
Loaded to equal pressures, the 280 will do as much and more than the 270 with equal weight bullets. It really shines with the 160 gr bullets!
