Bear Fatality

Story says the 62 yrs old female left her vacation spot to check on her dogs, never returned. Body found with bear next to it. Seemingly three bears in total were acting aggressively. OPP shot the bear believed to have killed the woman.

A woman is dead in cottage country a few hours southeast of Winnipeg after apparently being attacked by a bear.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said the incident happened Sunday evening at Red Pine Island, a private vacation spot on the Ontario side of Lake of the Woods.

Police said the woman, 62, had gone to check on her dogs and didn't return.

Officers investigated and found her body near a bear – one of three who were threats to officers during the investigation.

The bear believed responsible for the woman's death was killed by police, and Ontario's Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is currently working with OPP to determine next steps.

As the incident happened on a secluded island with no other residences, police said there wasn't a further significant risk to public safety.

Here ya go.... tough crowd.

Seemingly, three bears were acting aggressively and they shot ONE ?

Grizz

Why would they lie?
They already mentioned they euthanized one of the suspect bears.
Damned if they do, damned if they dont.
Give credit where credit is due...
Rob

The police lie constantly it's actually part of their job. They also lie to protect themselves. Do you live under a rock?

Yes, that's right they ARE damned if they do and damned if they don't. That is the cost of being afforded the power society grants them...

What I hate more than these types of bear stories are the people from my area or those who come for a visit, see a bear, get out of their vehicles and start taking selfies with the bear. Don't people realize that these are wild animals that could kill in seconds!?! It wuld be interesting to know if this woman was prepared for bears or if she thought that wild animals is not an issue while camping in the woods?

What ever happened to the classic CGN mantra of "Play stupid games, win stupid prizes"?

You know, like venturing into bear country ill prepared and apparently getting killed by bears. Wild animals that eat meat. Of any sort.

Some might say it's Darwin at work. Some might say it's Mother Nature at work.

I know many will say, "Kill all the bears!".

I know others will ask, "Why are there no bears for me to kill?"

All three bears were shot as reported.
Police in the Rainy River area are investigating the death of a 62-year-old woman, after she was attacked by a bear. The incident happened late Saturday, and the bears on the secluded Red Pine Island were dispatched by officers.
Probably a sow and two cubs.
That's the part they won't mention.
