Anyways I was up at our 80 acres cutting our trail to get to this large swamp that diagonally cuts through the property at the center. It actually looks like a couple of drunks cut the trail the way it winds and weaves its way through the bush.Anyways we thought the hell with this we are going to see how far away we are so we flagged are way to the swamp with marking tape.Once we made our way to the swamp we (My wife and I) looked across and seen a tree stand hanging in a tree.I thought wtf,and went over to see if there was a name on it which there wasn't.There was a well used quad trail that ran from the property to the south into the adjacent property to the north.Trying not to be rude I went to the most SE corner of our property on the gravel road took a bearing walked int the swamp put up about 6 stakes across the south end of the swamp and flagged them.On the north side I put up a barricade where the fence wire had been broken or cut and flagged them.also on the south side I put up a no trespassing sign and hung some orange flagging tape on his ladder and on a tree by the treestand.Hopefully they will get the message and relocate somewhere other than my property. My wife thought I was a little rude putting the flagging tape on his ladder and on a tree where he parks his atv.Your thoughts.
this wek I will kindly write a note and put it in a sealproof bag and attatch it to his stand kindly asking him to leave.

If you don't value the tree... Then I'd take a chainsaw and drop the tree onto the side the asshat put his stand on!!! That'll teach 'em...

If your wife won't let you, the note is a good idea...

Cheers
Jay

Well I'd be a little more than pissed if someone was using my property without permission. How far away is your property from where you live? Sounds like it's too far to keep a close eye on.

Is it obviously privately owned property? if so do wahtever you want. I do like how you said you were nice about it in your note.

See I come from a province where 95% of the land is privately owned, it is difficult not to tresspass around here. The laws here do allow you to hunt on any land that is not posted (other than farmland) but I would never construct or leave something without permission.

The property is an hour and a half drive from home so I try to get up there every 2nd weekend to do some work and get it ready for deer season.I myself plan on putting up two permanent treestands in the middle of that swamp one facing south and one facing north as well as another in another swamp and another in the front part of the property across from an alfalpha field.I am trying to keep human activity down as much as possible so I don,t need a quad ripping up a piece of land I intend to hunt.Neither do I need to
have someone get to comfortable hunting my property and come deer season
have this orange figure sitting in a tree south of one of my own treestands. The guy south of me does own a piece of the swamp I am talking about it is about 30yds. by 50yds. but this stand is a good 75 yrds on my property going by gps bearings and google map.

i'd take the stand down and leave a note where they could pick it up.then have a friendly chat with the owner
Sounds like the best idea to me.

It might be wise to not make yourself an instant enemy by detroying or taking the tree stand...especially since the property is too far away to keep a really close eye on. Take it down and leave a note stating that this is private property and you've saved them the trouble of taking down the tree stand and that they can pick it up from you personally. This way you (hopefully) keep things civil, AND you get to find out who it is that's been trespassing on your property.

I think the ball is in the other guys court. He may not knwo it's private property, or has been hunting it for some time etc, so there isn't any harm in being polite.

If he ignores your warnings, that's when it is time to drop the gloves.

I found one on my property last fall that I really considered falling with the chainsaw especially after I went in to check it out and there was halloween candy wrappers on the ground. I didnt have anything to leave him a note with so I picked up the garbage and put in the stand. Nothing seemed to change and he kept coming to the stand, but because I worked alot last fall I couldnt be there to catch this guy. So whenever I did get to go in I checked on it but never found him in it, so I sit and watched his apples a few times.

This peice of property is on the opposite side of the road as my house, and he is accessing it from the abandoned train tracks from the backside. So you never know when he is going there.

I still once in awhile consider cutting it down but it is a nice stand so I might just lay claim to it, and then if that causes trouble I might go hunting with my Husqvarna. My gas powered one that is.

I also agree with this approach.

My note would read something like: "I seized your treestand as you are trespassing on private property. If you call me at -------- and ask me nicely enough, I may arrange for you to get it back."

im not sure id do anything to destroy his stuff, thats just making enemies out of possable friends.

also with it being proprty far from where you live makes it hard to "police" so if you destroy his. he may come back and destroy yours. if you never find out who it is, it could be quite costly for you. id leave a note on his stand politely pointing out that he has put his stand on private land and it would be apreciated if he moved it, or if he really wants to hunt there talk to you about it and mybe you 2 can come to a deal.
