Another great morning in the field.
Got out here in BC for the Canada goose opening.
No decoys, I just hid out in the marsh grass under a flyway they use in the morning.
Got three and gave my buddy one who lives on my route home as two was all I wanted to pluck.
Nice work Michel.
We were too busy with the rebuilding to get out. Hopefully we will be able to get out in the December season.
Frank what kind of shooting glasses are those?
I went out scouting this morning for our weekend hunt, and I was surprised how few birds there were in the area. I did find one field with 1000+ geese and a few hundred ducks, and I quickly got permission though. Hopefully the peas hold out, and the geese stay until Saturday, because the other combined pea fields were all empty, after having hundreds to thousands of geese a week ago. We need another week of food weather to get some fields combined, so there are feed sources in the area, to hold the birds.
Anyone in Eastern Ontario willing to take on a couple of young guns, my hunting partner and I would be happy to take you out for a coffee, get to know you, and convince you that we aren't a bunch of good for nothing city thuds.
We come self sufficient with guns, camo ammo and transportation, positive attitudes, good work ethics and strong backs. Only thing we don't have is our own lay down blinds, but we would seriously buy them tomorrow if anyone was willing to take us out.
We've been hunting land animals for a few years together, never had much of a go at waterfowl in a proper set up with someone who knows what they are doing. We have great access to a good plot of land for Turkey hunting if anyone wants to trade. Not really interested in paying for a guided tour. Far more interest in earning our keep by helping with hard work and sharing some enthusiasm and hopefully not too much comedic relief.
If willing to take the chance and offer a hand to the next generation, please feel free to send me a PM. Thank you kindly.
Best of luck to all.
Had a few great hunts this week with a buddy from Sylvan Lake. He arrived late saturday afternoon. A quick scouting trip and a few phone calls later secured permission to hunt a swathed quarter of wheat holding in excess of 2500 ducks. Next morning we were a group of 5 and took our 40 birds.
Monday morning found us on a swathed wheat field once again that had about 1000 canadas on it. When sunrise came we found ourselves under assault by hordes of Specklebellies, enough so that we opted to aim for hoping to get a limit of them and we did just that putting 15 of them on the ground for the three of us. It was a first for all three of us. We ended the morning by adding two canadas and 10 ducks.
This morning we hunted another swath I had secured permission on holding a few hundred canadas and no less than 2500-3000 ducks. We opted to focus on the ducks only so we set out 10 dozen mallard silos and two lucky duck spinners. Mother nature was backing us with good strong west winds and the ducks literally poured from the sky into the kill hole text book style at 10 yards. I shot my 20 gauge with Federal 2.75" 3/4 oz steel 4's. What alot of fun whacking ducks out to 25 yards with the sub-gauge. Our hunt was over by 8am with our count of 24 ducks.
It was a heck of an icing on an already sweet deal of 3 days waterfowling with my hunting buddy of 27 years. Thursday another friend is migrating in from Ontario to get together for a few days of waterfowling. We are experiencing a huge push of new birds the past two days and hopefully I can get him on his first ever snow and specklebelly geese.
