New Ladder test , Vangaurd 300WM , The end.

I found Sierra data for the 190 grain MK showing Re22 as the most accurate target load around 70.4 and around 73 for hunting.
For hunting I substituted the 190 grain Hornady.
.300 Winchester Magnum Trim: 2.620
Accuracy Load: 190 grain Sierra HPBT 70.4 grains of Re22
HUNTING LOAD: 190 grain Hornady BTSP 73.0 grains of Re22

Three shots at 300 yards with the accuracy load - 1.5 inches; Three shot with the hunting load - 3.0 inches.

All of the powders tested in the Nosler book it was Re22 that gave the highest velocity and accuracy.
IIRC correctly my hunting load was clocking around 2900.

Otherwise I think the 75.0 - 76.0 shows the most promise.

I'm not doubting the validity of the RL22 powder , however , IMO a powder won't have a giant difference to turn a gun into a shooter or a dud , there will be evidence of some cohesion between components , but yes, some do shoot better than others, by varying degrees.

I've put through Retumbo, H1000 , H4350 and 7828 , you can't have 4 dead horses. :)

Some rifles have very small windows of cooperation between components , this may be one and hopefully that range of 75-76 can get me a decent huntning load.Not looking for F-class accuracy but MOA would be nice to see.
 
Well, went out today to check three charge weights , decided to load for 5 shot groups, which I typically don't do for a hunting rifle I usually do three but I should of as you will see.

Did the three charge weights of 75,75.5 and 76 with the 190gr LRAB.

Target was at a distance of 115 yards.

This I can deal with as it is right at the MOA mark, for big game I'm plenty okay with that , we aren't going to compete at westerns with this rig.

Even though I waited between shots it still wanted to wonder on shots 4 and 5. 76gr load blew all to sh it as well.

What I really do like is that shot #1 is within 1/4 of each other on 75 and 75.5 loads , those were cold barrel shots.

***I adjusted to stay on target for the 76gr loads , hence the group movement.







Measured the 75 and 75.5 first three shots...





75.5 and sight in and off I go.

And for the naysayers that like to blame the shooter or the loading technique or the booze or the drugs or the gravy.....................

This was my BLR in 7WSM with a fixed 6X I shot between test groups of the 300. ;)

Hey Kelly...thanks for posting. I am learning lots.

Was at the range today helping my hunting buddy's kid with a brand new 7-08 tikka T3 stainless with top notch Leopold optics. It's all over the place right now using factory ammo. My buddy doesn't need any help but this is a puzzle that needs solving and he asked me to help out. Your story is helping me approach this problem better.

Federal Fusion 140gr was out to 8 MOA, shot by my buddy and not his kid.

I bought a box of Hornady Whitetail 139gr and this got a little over 2 MOA yesterday. Good enough for hunting but the expectation for this setup is 1 or less. It may be a simple thing like preference from one store bought flavour to another. His other two kids Browning's 7-08 spit out 1 all day long using the Fusion.

I don't know much about these T3's other than I have read that the mag length is not conducive for seating bullets out long if that's it's preference. My friend isn't drinking the reloading cool-aid yet but with three boys chewing through lead, I think I will get him with the old and not true "but it's cheaper" line. :redface:

I have owned LOT's of 7-08 Rems and most all shot Great ( 1-1.5 MOA) with a Variety of FACTORY ammo at Industry std Lenghts - In Fact all Factory loaded Cartridges of any Caliber have a Factory std lenght and can shoot SOMETIMES under 1/2" MOA in many rifles ! Factory ammo COAL shot in Factory rifles has Little effect on Accuracy in MOST rifles ! RJ
 
Most T3s have long throats but the tolerances are on the minimum side of mean. NOT ALWAYS THOUGH.

I have a T3 in 6.5x55 as do a few friends. All of them shoot all weights of bullets well without much preference as to manufacturer. Handloads of course. Even factory loads shoot within 1 moa.

That being said, I have a T3 chambered in 243Win that I wouldn't trust with any factory ammo. I have only found one brand that shot well and it was only from a single lot. It's one of those rifles that will only shoot a specific handload with a specific bullet/primer and my present batch of blended powder.

Like KT's tests, this rifle could be his Vanguard's twin. I put close to 300 rounds down that rifle before I found a consistent load, which wanted neck resized only cases. The chamber/neck/throat are right on maximum dimensions. Overall length doesn't appear to be an issue. However, case length does seem to effect accuracy slightly when the cases stretch out close to max. A quick trim and cleanup bring things back again. Now I have the case length written on the description label to remind me to measure the case lengths.

I load for two T3's right now a 7/08 and a 7RM (neither rifle is mine)

Although I'm not a fan, both rifles like TSX and TTSX , and both like them at a speed of 2950 ish muzzle velocity with 140gr.The 7/08 load actually wound up being slightly faster by about 20 ft/sec for what it prefers for ultimate accuracy , i just don't have the numbers in front of me right now.They like a standard COAL.The 7RM also shoots a 150 SC II decently.

Factory loaded Barnes ammo is quite expensive so likely not a route one would want for practice rounds.
