1 year old GP-100 - cracked forcing cone

That is a pretty mild load. I use 15.2 with the same bullet. That cracking and erosion is very weird as well. I have a 686 with close to 10,000 rounds through it. Aside from some minor flame cutting it looks nearly new. Send it off to snapshots and say nothing of what you fed it.

* I have not fired reloaded ammo from this gun * But if I had, it would have been 13.8 gr of Alliant 2400 behind a 158 gr campro SWC plated bullet and CCI 550 small magnum pistol. And those loads would have been easier than the Blazer ammo I fed it.

was it the Blazer aluminum case? I bought a case of it by accident and hated it. I think I only used 2 thirds of the case and sorta gave up on it.

Well if you were only using factory ammo and you have bought the ammo from the same store you purchased the GP 100 from contact the store and I'll bet they send it off and it gets repaired. they send them to some guy in Quebec .

I have seen blown forcing cones on K frame smiths, but that looks strange, Looks to me like bad steel/ defect in the manufacturing.

Absolute anomaly. The GP100 will generally outlive the roaches at the end of the world. Can't wait to hear the resolution on this one. Sorry for the misfortune.

Standard type load except Alliant does not reccomend magnum primers when using 2400.

I have a Stainless 4.2" GP100 and have fired thousands of hand loads using Alliant Bullseye powder. My revolver is about 8 years old and has no signs of wear or erosion such as yours, the edge is still nice and sharp. As others have stated this is not normal. As for Snap Shots I have heard they are rather busy but I had a great experience with them. I had a 10/22 with a cracked receiver, I contacted them by phone and sent them pictures. They had me send the rifle to them and in a couple weeks I received the rifle back with a new receiver with no fees other than the shipping to them. They took care of me.

I hope you are right. I have yet to hear from them but I only contacted them on Monday so I'll give them some time. I thoroughly enjoyed this gun so I hope something can be done about it indeed.

I got run around for a very long time with snap shots. Horrible and rude communication not to mention outright lies that got Ruger USA quite annoyed etc etc. They ended up issuing a full refund for my pistol at the purchased price. Be wary and don't be afraid of going through Ruger's US customer service which is very polite to have direct contact with their Canadian rep should issues arise. Good luck.

Send another email or call if it's more than a full business day. The only time they were ever slow or rude is when I was being an ass, or I sent an email after hours that likely got buried. Funny how that works...

It won't hurt to contact Ruger and just make them aware of your situation. I had to deal with Snapshots in the past and it was a positive experience -- no issues. I actually phoned Ruger and they are the ones that put in touch with Snapshots and they covered shipping of my firearm to and from.

I also own a 4.2" GP100 and have about 4500 rounds through it, and although it's dirty (I'm lazy), it is solid with no cracking or chipping issues.

Good luck.

I will follow up tomorrow.

If they end up giving me a run around, I'll send a formal demand in due time. As an attorney, that usually shakes things up quite a bit.

they will take care of you
I've had a GP100 barrel replaced for a mostly cosmetic issue
it took 8 months though

After seeing your pics I pulled mine out of the safe for a look. Lucky for me mine shows no signs of the damage like you have.
I’ve always heard good things about the GP-100 and Rugers customer service. Good luck and keep us posted.

I imagine that would haha. I have a Ruger SRH Toklat that had a massive cylinder gap. Snapshots had the gun fixed and back to me in under 2 weeks.
