.22 LR Target Pistol- S&W VS Ruger VS Browning

I am a big fan of .22. Focused in on the mark IV and picked up a competition. Swapped out the trigger and added a valquartsen kit. Very smooth and drives tacks. More accurate than I am. I may swap out the hand guards as the mag release is blocked by the thumb rest on the competition model.
 
was out on Friday with my dad, he is up for a visit.
took out his Browning Buckmark URL and his new Browning Buckmark Lite.

we where checking out the sites on some other pistols so we had a pistol rest set up so i used it with those 2.
was crazy accurate.
i was putting them in groups the size of my thumb nail with 10 rounds.

just when i think those buckmarks are good they go and do something like that and make me appreciate them even more.
 
I have a buckmark stainless urx and absolutely love it. It truly eats everything and I would welcome you to try it and see if you lived close enough. I can't even begin to guess the round count but it keeps chugging without issue. It's a little tack driver also. I also have a mk1 standard ruger from 1952 that eats everything and shoots great also.

Don't waste your money on a gsg, Sig or colt 1911-22. They are all pot metal junk. If you want to save a bit buy a victory.
 
I have not read all the posts, But if you want a good target gun, you DO NOT want one that the barrel comes out, ie gsg
Any of the Smith,s brownings, Rugers, colts, Hi standards will shoot great.
I shoot Hi Standards, but a old MK 1 ruger target model would shoot as good as any hi end target gun I had.
That new s-w victory seems good and you can mount a red dot on it if you get the rail, good for us old guys.
 
I was in the same predicament and based on reviews, videos, CGN feedback and a price of $380, I purchased a S&W SW22 Victory a few weeks ago.
Haven't received it yet but I have put in an order from Tandemkross and Volquartsen.
They also come with a polymer rail from the factory and two mags.
Just can't be beat for the price.

I have a Mk II and a Mk IV. Both with Volquartsen triggers. They are very accurate with CCI Standard or Mini Mags. If you are looking for an affordable target .22 this is the way to go. I have a Model 41, which is very accurate as well, but they got expensive.
 
I’ve had a Ruger Mkii and a Mkiii. Both were reliable pistols however neither of them were accurate. I definitely wouldn’t recommend a Ruger for target shooting. They are practically pellet guns.

I haven’t had a S&W 41 but that will definitely be my next 22 pistol.
 
Sold my ruger mkII after having bought a buckmark and shooting them side by side.
Both similar grouping but I like the look and grip on the buckmark better,
Also ruger teardown was a bit of a hassle and the mag and slide release of the buckmark are nicer imo.
 
I have shot a lot of 22's over the yrs, Rugers don't have great triggers, but they will shoot a hell of a lot better than the new crop of double action guns and the GSG family of guns, though they are fine as starter guns.

I also had a Ruger and a Russian Margolin.

If your interested in a quality precision rimfire, of the three asked about here, I'd take the Browning, but only the Medalist.

If your only interested in a plinker, pretty much any of them will do.

Beyond that, there are better options.

I still have the Colt and the Hi Standard; all the rest are gone.

Yes ,,,,,,,, the S&W M-41 is one of the best . Yes I have owned & shot these for about 35 yrs .
Presently own 4 & love them all . Accurate , dependable , easy to field stripe & clean .
They cost more than the ones you mention but worth every penny .
