What are some good “budget friendly” scopes. I own a couple Bushnell ultra HD scopes but I find the eye relief so finicky to get the full field of view, Your eye had to line up perfectly. It is not forgiving at all. When the sun is getting low in the sky you can hardly see anything through the scope to the west. When I don’t mind paying decent money for a good scope but I also have a hard time spending the price of my rifle on glass . What are you guys using on your hunting rigs. I would say 12 or 14 power is max for me

Going to be the first to chime in on this one.
I have used a Bushnell Banner Dusk to Dawn in both 3-4x40 and 4-12x40 actually prefer the lower power one. They are good optics just pair it with a good set of scope rings and your set. The scope can survive inclement weather and they are not super expensive. Personally think the Bushnell Banner line is way underrated would by another one if I had to. FWIW the 3-9x40 I've owned for 15 years and had it on a .17hmr, 223, 308, 6.5 and 204. It now sits on another 17hmr. The 4-12x40 sits on my Tikka T3x Krieger barrel 223 in a MDT Chassis - routine 1.25 inch 10 shot groups at 200 yards keeps them quiet.

good luck hope i saved you a few bucks

Last year I compared Bushnell 4500, Bushnell 6500, Leupold VX2, Vortex Viper, Zeiss and a Nightforce. To be budget friendly I would buy a good used Leupold as they have great eye relief. Vortex is similar optically but eye relief is lacking. Bushnell wasn't good at all optically and I was very disappointed. Nightforce and Zeiss are great but not budget friendly. Get one with a lifetime warranty and you shouldn't have any issues buying used.

try meotpa scopes.just as good if not better than zeiss.
i have two meotpa scopes one is over 12 years old and its bullet proof.

prairie guntraders, avonlea stocks them or can get them

Warranty is big for me. So that’s why I’ve been sticking with Bushnell vortex and Nikon but vortex and Bushnell have almost seemed like they have increased to cost a lot to offset the warranty

I'd say get a Nikon while you can but since you say warranty is important to you and they are getting out of riflescopes, maybe not. They'll still be around to honour warranties but that might mean partial refunds or credit notes toward other Nikon stuff rather than repair/replace a scope. If you don't like Bushnell or Vortex you go with Leupold and face the same problem: Fulfilling warranty commitments costs money, it's paid for in the purchase price. If the warranty isn't limited to the original new purchaser, that unlimited commitment will show up in the second hand price, too. But as long as a Leupold was imported by Korth, they'll back it, so if you like their scopes you can decide it's worth the extra.

I like the modern Weavers made in Japan, the Classic K and V models, but warranty was always going be complicated by having to return them to the company in the U.S. so I've only bought two new (an R4 and a K4 Scout.) I have an R4, a V3, two V9, at least three K4, two K6 all bought used, never any fault or defect with any of them so far.

I also like a couple of Bausch&Lomb Elite models that I acquired second hand, a 3000 series 1.5-6x and 4000 series 4-12x40AO. They have been good value
and Bushnell honours the warranty on these.

Finding one that suits your eye is the best bet in the long run. I won't get into brands but most of the ones mentioned are as good as one needs them to be. I've probably shot more deer and moose with the scope on 3x over using the higher power setting. Nothing wrong with a 3x9x40. I've yet to find a need to shoot a rifle at 9 or higher when hunting... It could serve a need in certain situations.

I came to this subforum to create the same thread.
What is budget friendly for you? $200? $400? 600?
I’m looking for a scope too. Hunting mainly on the west coast. I have a preference for Leupold or Vortex. Nikon was up there too, but it seems that they won’t be around for too long, at least as scopes go.
I’m looking for max price around $600

lots of shooters think target scopes are needed to hunt no ..... field of veiw is no 1 ,,,lots of variable eye relief is next keeping both eyes open next,,,,,,,why reduce your info input with to high power see less and do you drive with one eye,,,,,,,,try 1.5 to 4 power,,,,,,,,do your self a favour keep the big iron for the range and learn to shoot a little more naturally

I've had good luck with the Nikon prostaff and Leupold rifleman & vx1 for budget scopes, they seem really clear for the price, but I would steer clear of low cost high magnification scopes, usually clearer glass on cheap lower magnification scopes than cheap high magnification scopes imo.

i find low power works better with economy scopes. high magnification equals high cost scopes if you want them clear with a decent eye box.. luep vx1 or 11, burris or ziess tera work well as long as you keep the magnification under nine x. i prefer 2x7 or fixed 4x or 6x for hunting.
