Hi everyone, I’ve owned and still have non restricted rifles, my question is the ATRS worth the price tag... the sporter is 4g’s plus, I understand the non restricted tag it comes with but is superior to a Daniel Defence AR? Is the ATRS way better then the ACR /XCR which both own? Let me hear what you have to say! Thanks everyone

I have owned XCR/ACR/modern hunter/DD Pro.

In my humble opinion, the XCR is far and away the worst. I have had multiple 223 (XCR-L) and a 308 (XCR-M).

I really like both the ACR and the ATRS modern hunter. The Herron conversion ACR I believe was awesome!

The Modern Hunter was great as well. Frankly I preferred the look of the ATRS with the carbon fibre barrel.

I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with either an ACR or ATRS. I think the 16” DD is awesome as well. Wish it was non-restricted!

I think the question could also be asked, “Is Daniel Defense worth the money?” It’s all a matter of opinion. Is the upper/lower pricey? Yes compared to other AR’s. But it is not an AR. At this time it and the SLR are a Canadian made genus of their own. As a result it’s really difficult cause you’re comparing apples to oranges. They are a Canadian company, turning out small batches, and paying Canadian wages/ benefits. They are not a US production plant turning out thousands of a generic product for a population of 300 million.

Can't really compare a MS with a DD, they are different rifles other than the fact some components are interchangeable.

There isn't a single person I heard of being disappointed in ATRS MS quality, if you read all the MS related threads. People are building high end gucci MS's and others using cheap chinese parts, so the cost is dependant on the builder i guess.

There was one post about someone building theirs for less than $2K all in, he bought a $700 AR and stripped it to build his MS.

If you want a NR rifle with ergonomics of an AR, the MS is the go to.
And as far as finish of the receiver, there are no machining marks, anodizing is quality.

The real question here is comparing a DD restricted forge receiver to a ATRS cnc non restricted receiver. I dont have any numbers but my guess would be the MS/MV is a bit heavier. Finish on both are outstanding. DD's a a great reliable rifle, ATRS MS well it all depends on what you put in it! I know my MV was flawless in every way before I sold it, alone with all my NR... dam house renovations...

So is the charging handle the main difference between the sporter and MV,

Side charging handle and the bcg is machined to accommodate it, MV can only use Timney trigger and can't be changed by the user, barrel indexing pin is in a different location, rear takedown pin is a different system (spring loaded trunion on the MV, which I like because it makes the receiver fitment really solid). That's about it.

EDIT: Forgot to mention the Varmint also has ambi bolt release.

The Non restricted tax is soon to be a thing of the past
That's defeatist to the max.

There's been a metric #### ton of it around here the last few weeks. All this negativity isn't going to help us one bit.

You guys sound so eager to lose your guns, you might actually cause it to become reality.

How about we could win, eh? How about we could keep all our guns, how about we actually focus on keeping our guns instead of losing them? How's that for a change?

While I have never fired the ATRS I have closely compared the ACR to the XCR but certainly, and to my surprise, prefer the ACR.

From a bench, I found little difference in terms of accuracy, but the ACR was just ~ slightly better ~ although it had the benefit of more extensive handloading beforehand.

The main difference where the ACR proved advantageous was when firing quickly from a standing position as it was far easier to control and continuously put rounds on target. The XCR danced all around when shooting quickly and required a slower and more deliberate recovery between shots.

The difference was unmistakable and the same conclusion was drawn between three shooters.

I would like to perform such a comparison with an AR vs ACR some time.
