Looking to ad a non restricted 556 gun to the safe and have almost settled on an xcr as the tavor looks awkward and the ATRS is even more money and unatainable and iv heard bad things about the mac def sets. Wondering how the new xcr feels and handles. Looking for something i can run hard whether running drills with or taking back packing in all weather. Im used to my colt Canada's and daniel defense ar's. So the xcrs similar controls are pretty appealing.

IMO the XCR is a phenomenal platform. I had one for years and never had an issue. Went over 1000 rnds without cleaning and 0 malfunctions.

Looking at ordering one in black with the mlok rail in the standard length as you can fine tune the gas system without disassembly aswell as if i go with the shorter rail i can pick up an sbr barrel to tuck away in the closet

Make sure you get the pencil barrel and Keymod (MLOk?) version. Especially if you want to take it backpacking. With the NR barrel, the rifle feels very long. Make sure you 2 point sling it! It does not hang well as a single point.

I’m not a fan of the FAST stock either. Feels too small and the LOP feels off for me.

As a run and gun rifle, it’s ok. I’ve seen them fail during matches and courses. The small ejection port can make clearing malfunctions an issue.
I do like the stock trigger though! Much better than a stock DD one.

If I were to get another I would get the longer handguard. The gas system doesn’t need tinkering with once it’s set. Unless you were constantly using drastically different ammo.

My only complaint was the stock trigger. I found it ‘grindy’.

I have an xcr -L keymod. I bought it secondhand with 1500 hrough it. I have since put 700 through it with 1 malfunction( stovepipe with steelcase mfs). Besides that i looooove this thing. Ive put 6 types of ammo through it and i use 4 different types of mags and only 1 malfuntion. I havent cleaned it yet. The trigger is excellent. Only thing i would change is a longer forend for more real estate. The competition model solves this problem though. I have also used the ar stock adapter and ended up putting the fast stock back on because the ar stock was way too low. All in all its me favourite gun i own hands down.

I liked my L and M trigger. They were light and clean. Way superior to the stock VLTOR, Colt, SIG MCX and DD that I’ve tried. Maybe I got lucky?

No you didn't get lucky. The other guy with the bad trigger got unlucky.

My XCR's all had a better trigger than a mil spec AR trigger.

I had an early model in .223/5.56 and ran somewhere around 4K through it and regretfully traded it for Something else.

I currently have a keymod in 7.62x39. Also thousand of rounds through it. The rifling is nearly nonexistent due to running corrosive ammo and giving zero phucks about maintenance. It still shoots straight and is reliable af.

I did my own trigger work on both, resulting in absolutely superb triggers.

The xcr is by far my fav platform. I’m not at all a fan of the AR despite owning a stag 10. I only went AR with the intentions of a particular barrel conversion. I wish I had gone xcr-m instead.

I've run the platform for years, i love it.
I ditched my M cause i felt it was to heavy for hunting (and that was why i owned it), but ive been rocking a xcrl for a couple years now. Thing is a beast, im well into my second create of chicom ammo and and shot about 900 barnel sp's through it to. I thick ive had 2 ftf from the chicom (that one spam can was a terrible batch, even an sks got ftf on it), thats it.
Still ringing gongs at 500m

I have two newer gens keymod M and L and I really like the platform. Two in my collection I doubt I'd ever sell. Have a WK as well and you cant compare them. XCR build quality is excellent, easy to take down and fairly accurate. Although my WK has been problem free it isn't a gun to last a lifetime. If that's what your after get a newer XCR.

Ya i want something thats built to be run hard. And easy to take apart in the field. An off grid battle worthy 556 gun

The only thing i cant decide on is either standard length or comp length rail. The benefit of the shorter rail is u have immediate access to the gas adjustment and i can buy a short barrel and still run it if i ever wanted to

This.

One benefit to the XCR is the availability of parts - something you don't really get with a lot of NR platforms. For example, I was able to get a barrel extension and bolt to build my own 6.5G setup. Another nut has a 277 Wolv setup.

Best NR tacticool rifles out there IMO. I wish I didn't have to sell my -M, but having a 4wd was more important to me at the time.

I'll buy one again ASAP.
