Great news, I hope! :)

Here in NB, we have a caliber restriction outside the 3 big game seasons (moose, deer & bear) which prohibits anything larger than a 22 CF rifle. I'm sure that historic poaching is the reason for this old law. If this new law comes into effect, it will allow us shooting longer range with our larger rifles away from the ranges.

Wow, that's great news! I have no doubt that Mike Holland had a big hand in that. Hes the MLA here in Albert County and natural resources minister. Hes totally on our side. This is how life is different under a Conservative government.
 
Excellent. I made an attempt at this here in NL. With you guys moving forward I can us it as ammo in my rebuttal.
 
Any chance they will do away with the 'Transportation Certificate' required outside of hunting seasons to transport your firearms?

I remember going up to DNR to get these silly pieces of paper to take my rifle to the range to sight in prior to deer season starting...

There is no turkey season in NB? Thats pretty surprising. When I drove through NB this past summer, I saw a crazy amount of birds. I even almost wiped out a whole group of birds crossing the road on two separate occasions while driving from McAdam to Saint John
 
Great news . Some of the gun clubs will take a hit as some firearm owners had to join a range if they wanted to shoot larger cals . With these new regulations , folks will be able to target practise with bigger bore rifles without joining a range .
 
Anybody have an official release or govt document for public consumption so I can use it in my response her in NL ??
 
I think this will be for the purpose of hunting varmints. will need a valid varmint licence. I think if you want to target shoot and not have to purchase a varmint licence you will still have to go to an approved range. It does say make changes to caliber restriction which will increase recreational hunting opportunities.

True , but I think a Varmint license is only around 14 bucks for six months , and a small game licence for the other six months gives year around firearm usage for about 30 bucks . That is a lot cheaper than most ranges , and you can shoot on any Crown land . It would be a major improvement for N.B. firearm owners .
 
Great news for NB'rs. Here in Saskabush, we can fire our bazookas pretty much any time. Just need to be mindful of various big game seasons. A few years back, we finally, finally got Sunday hunting. That effectively doubled a lot of peoples' hunting time.

Our marvelous Resources ministry (at least I think they are to blame) came out with some changes to what calibers can and can't be used for big game. As far as I can tell, and what I gather, our game wardens didn't have anything to do with the changes. The rules used to be quite simple - nothing under .24 caliber was to be used on big game. Even the dumbest cluck could deal with that.

Could you post more info on these restrictions? I do recall changes that excluded a bunch of pistol calibers (some of which are probably perfectly reasonable for deer etc) but I'll be honest I don't feel like googling it, I do that sort of thing at work enough and Sask in particular is frustrating me from a work/google perspective lately... Y'all map resources suuuuuck. Lol
