hey fellas ive noticed since using these PPU 45gr soft point ammo in the CZ Hornet that it shoots like poo now.... literally wont group em.
anyone know why this might be? as with Super X it worked a treat with the factory open sights, an just putting 2 shots near each other .... Now, i just struggled to hit a small pizza box at 50m..... ? weird

is the prjectile small inthe ppu?

\
hmmm, copper fouling?

i dunno

Hard to say on that one. Speer Bullets sold a 45 gr Hornet bullet that was .223" diameter to fit the earlier made rifles in that chambering. The .224" is the standard these days in the Hornet. When I checked the Privi site, I see that all their .22 rifle bullets are listed at .224". They don't show a diameter for their loaded .22 Hornet
ammo.

Ye may want to slug the barrel on yer ZKW 465 to see if it's the tighter bore. My one from years back was the tighty.

funny thing is i got the box before a goat hunt trip in outback nsw, did some stalking and ended up firing one shot on the trip, at 5 m on a nanny.... so accuracy was 'no problem' there, i think a friend fired 2 shots at a target and i put it down to inexperience lol, now that ive tried to shoot a group... its shocking!

ill look into it more, somethings not lining up

ok so last night i shot the pizza box again, 60m , the ppu are shooting a good Foot to the Left of POA... so i shot bottom corner an got bout 4 inch group.

not sure what to do with this, the rifle is factory open sight, doesnt look like much room to play with the windage...

has the rear 3 leaf folding 100-150-200 blade, an just a slide in post on the front?

also noted the chamber is a little straighter than the factory brass is sized, especially in the belly where the case has its slight kink

any thoughts on this-
or put it down to , rifle hates the ammo.

i see winchester have a vrmint x for 22 hornet 35gr...

No worries on rear sight windage on these units. Give a wee shot of good penetrating lube to the sight dovetail & let set an hour or so, then tap the unit a tad either way to correct windage. Use a small brass drift & small, light hammer to tap 'er over.

I have one rebarreled in a KE that shoots the 224 and lilgun fantastic. I picked up some 223 and not quite as good so I'm thinking its probably a 224 barrel. Even with the 223 its just slightly over an inch at 100. But if that one you've got is really bad I'll pay the shipping if you would like to send it this way.

Hornet chambers and bores are kinda famous for being variable. If you found a combination that works, stick with it. My Anschutz is a very precise rifle, well made, but it has definite preferences for ammo. It shoots Winchester 46 gr. HP the best, 2cm or less groups at 100M. RWS is almost as good. Remington HP and SP ammo produces poor 6 cm groups, PPU poor, S&B in-between. Interestingly, Winchester 45 gr. SP is not as good as the HP. Similar variability with handloads. I have found the best consistency with handloads are with neck sized ( Lee collet die) cases and Sierra .224" 45 gr. hornet semi point bullets and Lil' gun or W296. Remington 6-1/2 primers work best for me because they are low powered and made for the tiny case. A friend with an older Brno .22 hornet rifle says his bore measures .223" and his rifle shoots good with the Sierra .223" 45 gr.

One more thing, my Anschutz .22 Hornets accuracy went bad for a while, I inspected the crown and didn't think it was perfect. Re-crowned the barrel and all was good again.

You mention an oversize chamber. How long have you owned the gun and what is it's history? Any chance this gun has an 'improved' chamber, like a K Hornet?

no chance of another chamber but it was purchased in 1951 , grandfather arrived in aus 1949, used it for a few years, lent it to a friend, went mia until 2017 . thats when i got it back after the grandfathers 80th birthday party, last bloke to have it well his Son was at the Do...

totally unsure of exact shots but round on Aussie farms it would mostly be pulled out to shoot a roo or three, a fox or a cow, seldom used too much or too often?

ontop of action say 22x56h :) shes old

Lots to read, rifle is open sight, shouldnt have any lose scope rings or bolts :)

Ok so another dilemma, the rifle was shootin schit cos it had a loose rear sight in the dovetail, which got worse until noticed, now i used a youtube remedy of putting al foil under it in layers to raise it up,, now it is snug as! perfect.

however, with the leaf sight on the 100m V an the standard front sight, the rifles shooting a good 6-8 inch high at 100meters, So im wondering what would be easiest fix for that these days? without damaging the rifles 'value' which is all sentimental.. hooowever, i do possibly want to put the 2-7x33 scope on it in near future.. So is it worth trying to find a suitable front post thatis HIGHER ? is it a common size? something i can find from a 1950 CZ?

keen to hear ya thoughts here.
Still using PPU, its good with the soft point, not hollows... the scope is to get into the wild dogs i rekon.

well in a random turn of events since posting, i found a bridge mount old school type device, which hapens to slide into the dove tail grooves!
im hoping it is the same diameter as a scope of modern era??? cant see why not, but might look a wee bit smaller?... will measure that now actually. it is indeed 25 or so MM! Bingo, i cant believe that.

Weather it shoots straight idk, i will rip the scope off my Whelen i rekon haha!! that lasted a whole of a week!

never mind the open sight dilemma... from my research a "Model 1" is the same? an they should fit , matter of finding the right height.

Photo of device.... Anyone know anything about it?

Cheers!

The might be 7/8" diameter rings, that was a thing once. I seem to remember seeing something like that before, but I don't know who made it.

Hey mate..... i ran into a problem i overlooked.... how would ya get a 33mm obj thru those rings??? i figure, ya cant... so it needs a straight tube scope like 1-4x20??? bugger

do the rings not detach from the base and separate into two halves? If they don't you've got a bigger problem... how do you get the adjustment turrets past the rings?

Scope that beauty. I had a ZKW 465 years ago that I never should have sold. It shot amazingly well scoped. I never got to the irons, and in a moment of youthful indiscretion I sold the thing. Dumb move but I had only paid $150 for it and someone offered me a lot more.
