Sako/Tikka

You might want to try the Tikka replacement butt pad, they are made by Sims and most Tikka / Sako dealers should have them. I replaced the factory butt pads on all my Sako rifles, there is a noticeable difference on my 30-06. They are normally around $40, or were when I bought mine. They fit both the Tikka and Sako firearms.

I am going to get me a couple I looked them up sounds good.

I prefer the A7, I own both, I had an A7 in a 300wm and a 270, upgraded to the Roughtech in a 270 mainly for the 24" barrel, I still have Tikkas in 243 and 7 08, I don't think you can go wrong with either except for the Sako ejection issue, I have never had a problem with this but before I bought a used or new Sako I would want some assurances and a high mounted scope in my opinion is not a "fix". I don't care for any of the Tikka or A7 stocks so I put them in a Boyd's.

Pretty sure the T3x is exactly what the T3 was, albeit with several improvements that were seen as shortcomings of the T3. Both a great guns.

The only complaints of the T3 was the cheap feeling stock. That isn't fixed, but the fit and finish of the T3x's is a lot more hit and miss than it was on the T3's. That's not something that I've heard of impacting accuracy, but it's worth noting if you're a shopper.

Bigger ejection port for top loading. Steel bolt shroud. Steel recoil lug. Better recoil pad. Modular stock. Foam insert in stock.

Edit - I have a T3 LSS and never thought too much about the supposed shortcomings, but many online complained about the above issues

Those shortcomings were largely introduced by the Beretta group's marketing committee. They did the same thing with the Benelli Super Black Eagle's. Appears to have worked better on Tikka owners though.

I'm not talking about Tikka owners though. If you read back a few years, these perceived shortcomings were causing a lot of buyers to disregard the T3 as cheaply made right out of the gate. There's little doubt they were intended as cost cutting measures. You think this was a construct of Beretta? Why would they highlight the weaknesses of the model, but proceed to keep it current for more than a decade?

Might not be a big deal for you but the sako has the abity to unlock the bolt and empty the chamber while on safe. Personaly i like that option so i would choose the a7 well i would save up and buy a sako 85 unless your looking for wsm then i would and did buy the xbolt pro.

There were certainly gun writers (I'm looking at you Chuck Hawks) who complained about the "cheap" feeling stock (was then, still is even on the T3x) Consumers and Beretta largely ignored these issues as the T3 was a (relatively) inexpensive, but really well built rifle. After about 15 years they decided to pretend that the ejection port was as big a deal as Glock finger grooves and start selling the "new and improved" T3x. With a modest price increase of course.

I agree the T3 was a well build rifle that sold very well, but there were certainly a lot of criticisms on discussion boards about the plastic bolt shroud, aluminum recoil lug, and the hockey puck recoil pad. I think they listened to consumers over the years and incorporated these changes into the redesigned T3x. Of course they increased the price. When was the last time you heard of a new model coming out cheaper than its predecessor, especially when they've improved the product? I can't speak to the fit and finish of the T3x as I haven't handled one, but the changes I listed earlier seem to me like positives as many T3 owners were replacing the bolt shroud and recoil lugs aftermarket.

Buddy has a Sako something, ejection issues up the wazoo. Apparently very common.

Todd Hodnett plugged the Tikka T3 line as excellent for long range shooting, i'll take his word for it
