7.62x54 russian ammoany sources??

Then how could a VERY large shipment (and probably several) get import permits, then is distributed thru dozens if not hundreds of retailers, over a period of years, without anyone at NRCAN noticing ? On the surface at least it would appear their explanation just doesn't hold water.

I am not going to go into too much detail, but S&B is not on the approved list by calibre, just the name and a generic listing. They must authorize each import. Apparently, X54R was never on their internal authorized list, but was somehow approved and now they don't like it for whatever reason and have stopped it's importation and sale.

They deal with questions like these by sticking their fingers in their ears and humming as loudly as they can. Usually the only answer you can get comes in the form of an off pitch hummed willie nelson song.

Indeed, one is allowed to smoke up many more harmful chemicals in much larger quantities through cigarettes, but god forbid a few consenting history enthusiasts expel microscopic traces of mercury.

Not to mention all the mercury that these new compact fluorescents will be putting into the ground when they start dying and people throw them out...

MY MISTAKE SORRY FOLKS THATS THE COMMON NAME FER 7.72X54 IN MY AREA.
agains sorry fer the mistake folks.

"...to be used in my nagant bolt action or my svt 40..." That isn't 7.62 Nagant. It's 7.62 x 54R. Go to Epp's. Not likely to have milsurp in cases, but you never know. Shipping won't be cheap.
Reloading makes this search for ammo go away.

We have some from another source coming in the fall. Also, adding Czech X54 to the import list shouldn't be too difficult. It just takes a letter from S&B and the usual lengthy process.

I heard about WOLF making a decent version of the russian 7.62/54 sniper round
on the SVD forum a while ago and was wondering if anyone is familiar with it or knows if it is possible to get in Canada. I doubt it would fall under the eco rules
for mercury and it was supposed to cost about half the price of commercial ammo. 7.62/54 is one of my favourite rounds. I mean just the fact it has been used in the military for over 100 years is freakin cool.

Not approved for sale in Canada.

So WTF is going on?

Why is there a mysterious air of secrecy around the issue? Are you guys not allowed to talk about it? Is anything being done behind the scenes to actually re-import this stuff again?

We had our shipment blocked. It was coming with the load of x39. I know I am not going to have it tested. The main S&B importer should have the new stuf approved on-spec. That is much easier. We have other sources for later this year.

Good to know.

I'm just curious why NRCAN is being so hush-hush on the issue. Don't we deserve an explaination as to why certain brands of ammo are banned, and others aren't? If this truly is a back-door attempt to block ammo sales to civilians, then don't the Conservatives know about this, seeing as this is a federal agency and all?

Please read the other threads. CZ x54 is not banned, NRCAN says it was never approved, thus it must now be to begin imports again, like any other ammo. However, they are hush-hush about what products from S&B are approved. The don't publish a list for S&B, you have to ask.
